Free from Western pressures to ramp up the global warming/climate change scare, Chinese researchers, using dendrochronology as a proxy for temperatures, show China with significant cooling in the 20th century .....

A new paper (Oct 2013) published in Palaeogeography, Palaeoclimatology, Palaeoecology reconstructs May-July maximum temperatures in China over the past 267 years and finds that there was a significant decrease in temperatures over the 20th century. According to the authors, the "Reconstruction exhibits a significant decreased trend in 20th century" and "The reconstructed [temperatures are] similar to several observed [temperature series] and the temperature index in north-central China, which indicated that the decrease in summer temperatures in the 20th century was a large scale phenomenon."

Abstract

  • A tree–ring–width chronology of Pinus tabulaeformis was developed from the Qianshan Mountain, Liaoning province, northeastern China. Based on the correlation between the ring width and instrumental data, a transfer function was designed and the May–July mean maximum temperature (MMT) from 1745 to 2012 was reconstructed. The reconstruction explains 42.7% of the instrumental variance during the calibration period (41.7% after adjusting for the loss of the degrees of freedom). The reconstructed MMT is similar to several observed MMT series and the temperature index in north-central China, which indicated that the decrease in summer temperatures in the 20th century was a large scale phenomenon. The reconstruction also showed that high MMT values corresponded to historical drought events in Liaoning. In addition, a spatial correlation analyses revealed that the MMT reconstruction is regionally representative. Significant 128.2-, 64.1-, 18.6-, 3.46-, 3.19-, 2.43-, 2.15- and 2.10-year cycles were detected in the reconstructed MMT series from Qianshan Mountain.

Was that report approved by His Holiness Al??

From what I've read China are gearing up to reduce 'emissions' to an extent that'll put the Al Gore climonazis to shame.
But they're doing it to clear the air because they're choking, not because of a song and dance to stop the climate god getting angry.

That's how it should have been approached in the West. As a pure and simple pollution clean up. All the rest, the climate panic convulted ETS and CO2 taxing thing, is a totally unnecessary tactic designed to shake dollars loose.
Stopping pollution is the same as 'reducing carbon emissions', it just isn't as sexy a sell.

It's actually better than simply reducing CO2 as a 'fix' because it also reduces all the other toxic crap that we breathe in. As usual the Western spin doctors overcooked the plot and turned it into a farce. They didn't need a tax that their mates in industry could pass one to the consumer, all they needed to do, IF they were fair dinkum, was fine the bastards for polluting. End of section.

China mightn't play nice but they don't tolerate clowns calling the shots.

...but why do we keep on answering the bugle call on this DB? ... still for the thrill of the argument? Or is that a thin ray of truth I see shining through the bullsh*t??? Is there hope yet that sanity may prevail??

China mightn't play nice but they don't tolerate clowns calling the shots.

Actually they have a long history of clowns calling the shots, harking back to the times when public officials gained office not through ability but through passing a series of rigged tests and, more importantly, family connections.
