Chinese New Year

I used to celebrate Chinese New Year in my classroom every year. There was usually a story in the reading book, and I had other articles about Chinese culture that we read. I handed out red envelopes, and even had an art project. The piece de resistance was that I made fried rice at home the night before and brought it in. I taught them to use chopsticks, and then we ate the fried rice. They LOVED it. Before I gave them the chopsticks, I had a litany of warnings that pretty much boiled down to "Use them only for eating and after today I never want to see them again." LOL! We all enjoyed it. That's the kind of thing I miss about teaching.

I'm not a rat, but I have so many rat family members and friends. I do like rats. My grandmother was also a metal rat, like this year and she was a remarkable woman. Yay for rats. Have a super year!
