Christmas gifts, what do you buy ?

Luckily (in a way), I don't have to get holiday gifts anymore. My parents are gone and my other family members have stopped having Christmas parties, so no grab bags. On the other had, I don't get anything, either, but what do I need that someone would give to me? Like my grandma would say, "If I can't eat it or put it in my wallet, don't bother giving me a gift." Although I'd accept cameos and cat figurines.

A while back on my side of the family, it was decided to only get gifts for the kids. Now that the kids are adults, it's their kids we get for & it's usually cash so they can get what ever they want. On my husbands side, we exchange with cousins & sister.

We still exchange with a few very close friends. A couple of our docs & the vet's office get cookies & bourbon balls while the farrier gets a bottle of bourbon.

I forgot to mention that I buy wine for my neighbours... but this year one of my neighbours who loves wine and flowers will be absent from the list because she died of liver cancer just 44 years old... so sad... ...

I will try to get my SO something, but don't know what. She knows I do not want or expect any gift from her. We do try to buy something for her little Shih Tzu furkid.

I really don't have much family left. Two older brothers, two adult grandsons, and one DIL, none of which would expect a gift for me.

My grandsons are 26 and 28 years old now so I have to wait until they give me hints about what they want.I already bought my 13 year old granddaughter some gifts .She loves Taylor Swift so I bought her some albums and books about TS. Mydaughter and her husband haven't given me any hints nor has my hubby,

Usually give something pertaining to my wife and daughters activities. Moving to a new climate 4 years ago presented an opportunity to buy clothes and gear for camping, hiking, skiing, biking, etc. The wife loves books and puzzles. Last year I had a puzzle made from a picture I took of the Grand Canyon from a camping trip.

Has anyone got one of those wooley cardigans for Christmas?
Sometimes they have a stupid pattern or a vulgar remark.
It's lived at the back of your clothes drawer for ever more, but
you are loathe to get rid of it just in case old aunty, who gave
you the wretched thing, ever visits.
Nope.I've been very fortunate, no-one has ever bought me that

HA :ROFLMAO: !!! ... Yes Kate, Mason gets a special day LOL ... but no barking Jingle Bells :ROFLMAO:
I do enjoy the old traditional Christmas songs, mostly not any new fangled entertainers, and choir specials on TV.
Oh and I always get something for myself for Christmas ... but kinda sorta hard to keep it a secret ;)

While in the military one of the best Christmases happened to be during a visit to Vancouver British Columbia.
I went to a theater and saw the Nutcracker. Nice. Vancouver also has Christmas On The River boat parade at night which was quite colorful and Christmasy.

Merry Christmas Kate !!!
Excellent work @Naturally and no having to wear an awful jumper someone bought you just because you don't want to upset them by returning it or giving it to the local charity shop ;)

Hope you and Mason had a great day :)

I buy and receive gifts but, nothing particularly extravagant. I also send Christmas cards. I don't buy as many gifts as I once did and I don't post cards to people I haven't seen for years but, I do like buying and giving gifts. I have a couple of friends' lunches next month so have been buying small gifts to wrap up. I have actually been buying socks for my friends, I saw some really great designs and got tempted. The upside is that if they don't like them, I am happy to keep them :)

I just asked my daughter if she used the Costa Coffee prepaid card I bought for her last year.. and did she want another one.. She's just replied, that she did use it.. but no she doesn't want another one, because she thinks the pricing now is ridiculous... and I have to say i agree with her...
My daughter is not short of money, but even she is not willing now to pay or have me pay for something that she really always enjoyed because she can't justify the price, so now she just makes her own coffee and takes it with her

Have you thought of buying your daughter something like this ?

There's no little kids in my family and we adults don't exchange gifts. I always bought my kids gifts but think I'm to the point of just tossing some cash around, let them buy what they want or need.

If your daughter wants to bow out of the annual gift exchange I would respect her wishes.

Get together for a Christmas lunch or a drink and enjoy an hour or two together.

If you still feel the need to jump into the Christmas rush buy a warm coat or a toy for a child and put it into a donation bin.
