Christmas When You Were Small

My brother left home early so I virtually an only kid. The hardest thing was waiting to open presents. I could go through my stocking but not open things under the tree. I would be awake at 6am and my Mom would be saying in not so many words to go back to bed. Finally around 10 parents and my grandfather would be up whoooooohoooooo. They got smart in later years and Santa would leave a bunch of open toys for me to play with so the grownups could sleep in.

:christmas2: Anyone else with memories of Christmas when you were small?

Yes. We had a tree stand with a large water container built into the bottom. Always picked up a fresh-cut tree, the price of which we wondered at following my Dad's bickering over it. One year, I was likely under 5 yet, reaching up high to touch, remove or otherwise cause some ornament grief, I tipped the whole tree clean over! Spoilt the carpet, and all!

Mischievous little imp.

I enjoyed every one of these remembrances :). My folks went to great pains to give me and my brother a wonderful Christmas. They had both grown up during the Depression...and wanted us to have what they didn't. My mom always wanted a doll and never got one....so I got whatever doll was popular that year..along with everything to go with it. My brother got train sets and cowboy stuff.

We always had a fresh tree with bubble lights :). Santa left a stocking at the foot of our beds (we didn't have a fireplace). Christmas Eve there was always a party for extended family at somebody's house as they took turns each year. This has carried on to this day. In the earlier years we'd go caroling..something you don't see anymore for sure. :)

Thanks for the reminder Ah, bubble lights! They were fascinating. After dinner. my parents hung a sheet in the archway between the kitchen and the living room (where the tree was). My mom, older brothers and visiting aunts hung out in the bedrooms or cleaned up the kitchen. At one point my dad would come in from outside (there was a door from the garage into the living room) and tell us he heard a noise and saw something outside! The excitement began. What fun!

Best presents were a complete metal barn set with all the animals, set of green plastic toy soldiers and Annie Oakley gun and holster. yes I was a tomboy

I had Wonderful Christmas's when I was a child. The only sad Christmas was the one that came a few weeks after my Mom's Mother passed away. Of course my Mom didn't want to celebrate the Holiday that year. I was 4yrs old and my sister was 6yrs old. My Dad felt soo bad that he went out and bought me and my sister walking dolls. He had them in a wicker basket,in our living room. My sister and I loved the dolls and all these years later we both still have them. When my Dad passed away the only thing that got me through the Holidays was putting the doll under the tree
and my sister does the same thing. It makes me feel that my Mom and Dad are still with us.The Doll will be 65 yrs old this Christmas.BlHohQBGkKGrHqEOKjMEtkmpgdN0BLUH-1.jpg
