I suppose this goes under the Environment Header...

My City just came out with a ridiculous 3 item maximum on garbage day(only allowed to put three items to the curb) which is collected every 2 weeks. I've already noticed garbage bags on our county roads/ ditches and highways...people are fed up and tossing their garbage everywhere.

My daughter and I are going out with her camera to take pictures of all of the junk strewn about...then send the pics to the knuckleheads at City Hall.
 

yes garbage is an issue not addressed.
I remember having trash cans in many places like at store entrances/ outside of malls gas stations and parks etc. Where I live now it is hard to find one ... when out and about.

I think many places the $$ has gotten to be really high so they quit putting them out. Perhaps people dumped their trash from home at store....
At state rest stops signs say "only travel related trash " like someone was dumping household trash?

So what do we get litter and trash left everywhere .... etc
Not sure why local gov has not figured it out but other areas in state that still has public trash cans are much cleaner.

the more restrictions on trash result in more litter... my pick up takes photos i am assuming to show people if they had extra resulting in additional charge etc.

Just curious as to what constitutes an "item". Assuming that your city recycles, does that "three" include your separate recycling container(s)?

In the town I moved from, recycling pickup was of course free but we had to buy special bags for (non-recycling) garbage. IIRC, they were $3 each but that was ten years ago. The process seemed to work well. It encouraged people to separate their recyclables but anyone could put out as much "garbage" as they wished as long as they were willing to pay for the bags.

What do you mean by item. A garbage can, a recycling bin and a compost bin?

I sure wish we had a free pickup of large items, at least once or twice a year. That would cut down on a great deal of litter in the forest areas or left on the curb in urban areas.
 
3 items

This can be 3 full trash cans...

A trash can, a mattress and an extra garbage bag...etc.

2 large garbage bags and a piece of furniture

Recycling and yard waste have no restrictions.
 
Three full trash cans sounds reasonable.
My area allows one rolling bin for trash and one for recycling every week.
One large items once a month.

We have a system of three wheelie bins, provided by local government. A smallish red bin for general waste that is emptied weekly and 2 larger bins, one yellow for recyclables and one green for garden waste. The large bins are emptied alternately once each fortnight. In addition, we are entitled to two free collections pa of larger household items - eg mattresses, fridges etc. These collections must be booked, and the items need to be stacked neatly on the kerb for pickup.

The cost of collection is included in our annual council rates.

Since the wheelie bin system came into effect, dumping of rubbish is no longer the big problem that it once was.
