Absolutely agree with you. But, in some unseen or unpredictable way the human destiny may be all the better for it.Sure, you can argue "until the cows come home" about climate change:
1. It's man made.
2. It's a natural cycle
The argument is purely academic. The fact of climate change is more important than what is causing it. The fact is that the world is way, way over populated and many people are going to die sooner or later due to climate change. Some will die due to heat; others due to floods and many will die due to lack of food. Many will die in wars that will be fought over the need for land to grow food.
Some people say that if we stop using plastic bags, it's a good start to save the planet. Everyone is yelling that "We're Green" and that is suppose to sell whatever they are selling. Facts are now coming out that most recycle programs do not work. We can no longer ship our garbage from Canada to India. They don't want it.
Nothing stays the same forever and climate change is a change that is going to change the world. Oh, you might not like it or you might want to stop it but it's going to happen, one way or another.
Nah, and if fact I believe Lou Holtz was coaching at Notre Dame when the last one ended.During previous Ice ages there were no humans on the planet, that is a natural cycle. Today's climate conditions are man made.

Nothing new.

Precisely, thank you. The Fossil Fuel industry and the politician's that shill for them(shilling for big $$) have successfully created a false narrative and created the conspiracy theory mentality in order to create doubt, cripple unity of purpose, in dealing with the coming climate catastrophe. There is a big political aspect to the global warming hysteria. Follow the money.
Cite any scientific article indicating the Earth is in a specific natural warming cycle, as opposed to man creating the bulk of it.That makes zero sense. Natural cycles didn't stop because of human existence and behavior.
It's very likely the earth is in a warming cycle and humans are exacerbating it.
I sort-of did. See post #31.There’s another cycle here and that’s the ‘OMG we’re all gonna DIE from climate change‘ article cycle.
Maybe someone will look back and count them. If they do they will probably find us all saying the same things we said before.![]()
Well that's weird.Growing up here it got hot in the summer months and cooler in the winter oddly it still does the same.
There is a big political aspect to the global warming hysteria. Follow the money.
Hey Nathan, play fair. You knew what I meant and it wasn't that. We should be selling oil on the world market instead of enabling Iran to sell it.Precisely, thank you. Yes!I sort-of did. See post #31.
I thought so too at one time, that northern countries like Canada would be blessed and all our snowbirds could stay home once Earth has warmed enough! Ah, palm trees in Nova Scotia! Trouble is, this change is so darn unpredictable. Along with the inevitable gradual warming come floods and major storms and droughts and extreme temperature changes from one week to the next, as well as huge wildfires. We've seen it all during the past year. Canada won't be your dream destination. At least it doesn't look like it at the moment!Climate Change IS occurring, and there is little we can do to stop it. If every nation suddenly ceased using fossil fuels, and began planting millions of trees, we Might slow it down...fat chance of that happening. Instead, the latter half of this century will see mass migrations to places like Canada and Siberia. Society Will be turned upside down, and there will be a huge decline in human population...either by starvation, or warfare.

Mars would be a good choice if we can find enough water to create an atmosphere! We need to get off this rock, maybe circle or occupy a couple alternative rocks, planets or moons. Large populations might be useful for the terraforming and grunt work, maybe.
@Murrmurr: Thanks for shaking up my certainties. I need that now and then. I think at times, like today, when I read your post that I have too much faith in scientific pronouncements!Nothing new.

Maybe we could vote people off. There are a lot of world leaders and criminals who would be top of my list.We need to get off this rock, maybe circle or occupy a couple alternative rocks, planets or moons. Large populations might be useful for the terraforming and grunt work, maybe.
Sure, I knew what you meant, but it was a good opportunity the stress my point, that Fossil Fuel companies and crooked politicians are obfuscating the whole climate change issue, misleading and creating doubt over solid science, which is telling mankind that a man-made crisis is brewing, and that the business as usual approach needs to change.Hey Nathan, play fair. You knew what I meant and it wasn't that. We should be selling oil on the world market instead of enabling Iran to sell it.
What have we spent on global warming? Carbon credits? that's just some on-paper accounting hocus pocus to let gross polluters off the hook, for their responsibility. There hasn't been any real shift in technologies away from fossil fuel usage. Solar and wind are emerging technologies in their own right, and energy producers are making money there as well. We've spent billions, trillions on global warming only to get crappy predictions that it's getting worse.
The usual suspects- the crooked politicians and fossil fuel interests.Where did all that money go?

Money has corrupted scientific research like it corrupted government. It's so bad you can barely tell the difference between science and politics.@Murrmurr: Thanks for shaking up my certainties. I need that now and then. I think at times, like today, when I read your post that I have too much faith in scientific pronouncements!
It's true there's billions going into and coming from fossil fuel industry and relatively little being invested in solving the problem of carbon emission. The problem is not combustion, it's the release of carbon dioxide. Not many people understand the difference, but fortunately, there's a bunch of scientists and researchers who do, and they know there is no way to reach "net zero" by 2050.Precisely, thank you. The Fossil Fuel industry and the politician's that shill for them(shilling for big $$) have successfully created a false narrative and created the conspiracy theory mentality in order to create doubt, cripple unity of purpose, in dealing with the coming climate catastrophe.
