Clowns??

L.O.L.!!!!From your lips to Gods ears.
My 37y.o.son is terrified of them and I truly don't know why,as far as I know he was never traumatized as a kid...

They're from practically another century. Humor changes; it's a different world.

They weren't scary until Stephen King's novel "IT" came out years and years ago. Slowly, it became a trend to be "scared of clowns" so much so, that some people really did become afraid of clowns. They never bothered me. I just never found them funny.

I remember going to a circus when I was about seven. A car drove into the center of the tent and about 15 clowns got out of this little car. I think they were probably midgets (little people). Then they would scatter around the spectators and squirt them with those lapel flowers, make balloon animals. Anyway, I thought that was the most hilarious thing I'd ever seen. I've had a fondness for clowns...and midgets ever since. I also watched Bozo the Clown on television. I've seen some of the modern movie versions. Too bad they are presented as scary because I always thought they were fun.

Not funny and not a pretty sight either, but not spooked by them.

I'm just not a fan of clowns, the circus, magicians.....any of that kind of stuff.

Same here, never liked clowns as a child or now as an adult. Don't like circuses, magicians and stuff like that either.

I went to a folklore show in Ecuador and a clown kept staring at me throughout the whole evening. Everyone was teasing me about it, but it was major creepazoid. The above picture isn't the same clown but it's very near.

Clowns in Ecuador aren't "Bozo".....they're downright terrifying. I was told that they represent the Spanish conquerors. The white face paint represents their pale skin, the red patches are supposed to be sunburns. Their stern expressions indicate the cruelty to the indigenous people and of course, the crosses indicate the priests, who weren't exactly kind, either.

I don't think there are many clowns entertaining at children's birthday parties in Ecuador, unless the performance comes with a certificate for several sessions with a shrink.

They don't bother me but I have always felt sorry for small children that are thrust into the arms of complete strangers dressed as clowns, Easter Rabbits, Santa Claus, etc...

IMO it is a sick and twisted tradition, LOL!!!

Only time I saw a clown was when my parents took my sister and me to a circus. We always enjoyed the antics of the clowns because
that's what they were there for. NEVER feared them, of how they looked; they looked goofy & that's why we liked them.

Only thing that kinda scared me was watching the lion Tamer in the big cage snapping his whip at the poor aging lions who had lost most of their teeth because of their age. But it was all fun and interesting. Imagine a full grown uniformed man poking a caned back chair into a lion's face! ALL a big act, if ya ask me. But FUN!

Don't let her fool ya folks, SeaBreeze absolutely adores clowns.

As a matter of fact a couple of years ago she organized the "1st Annual Senior Forums Get Together" (held on her massive estate) and she had those of us that were able to attend come dressed as clowns.

Here's the SF group picture.......recognize anyone ?

The circus is where I first saw clowns. They were funny but I didn’t particularly like the circus as a kid. The way they treated animals and humans alike I didn’t care for. It was my first experience with a legal form of peddling. Plus I found both circus and fair people were usually very deceitful people. The way the behaved and the energy they had was desperate and I found it very unattractive. It was my first experience with a form of prejudism. I instinctively didn’t like them but I did like candy apples , toffee and candy floss.

The clowns were always around whether they were preforming or not and to see a grouchy, unhappy clown with a pasted on smile , I found ironic , even as a kid. I was a weird kid. But then again I’m a weird adult too.

Yep! That’s creepy!

They even have their own phobia name. From Wikipedia:

Fear of Clowns

Fear of Clowns Phobia – Coulrophobia. The word Coulrophobia means a persistent and irrational fear of clowns. It possibly originates from Greek Kolon meaning stilt or stilt-walkers which are often used by clowns.

I think I recognize one or two. SB, sorry I couldn't make it.

Hate them all. They are all grotesque, as I see them, and their antics are not funny, in my eyes.
