On todays news. Idaho Springs , Colorado.

2 Idaho Springs cops tased a deaf man for not obeying their commands.

The deaf man had exited his car and was walking toward the cops, and pointing to his ears and shaking his head. They then tased him, tackled him, drove him to the ground and arrested him.

The man was taken to jail, where he spent 4 months. The man says the cops offered him a phone at the jail but they refused to understand that he was deaf and needed an interpreter.

The man is now suing the city and the cops.

It seems there is literally no end to how stupid cops can get.

Good God. Four months?! In all that time, nobody noticed that the guy was deaf?

And why four months, anyway? Did it say what he was being charged with?

A bit of a confusing situation. As near as I can tell from youtube videos the deaf guy is charged with failing to stop at a stop sign, "resisting arrest" and interfering with a 1st responder.

One of the cops who attacked the deaf man has now been fired for another incident where he roughed up a 75 year-old man.

There is a youtube video of the deaf man at the hospital. Clearly, everyone knew that he was deaf. The fact that no cop gave the deaf guy any paper/pencil during the 4 months he was in jail is inhumane.

That is absolutely horrible, I hope he takes them to the cleaners.
Surely someone would have noticed he was deaf.
Police officers are not held personally liable. The city pays any judgments; that's why officers do whatever they want.

You talking about Brady Mystic?

Ah, I get it now, thank you for explaining to me.
The city also pays officers' legal fees, so they pretty much only have to be concerned with criminal liability. And even then, they are much less likely to be found guilty than ordinary citizens, except in blatantly-obvious misconduct with numerous witnesses & video
(like the Derek (Dirt bag) Chauvin case.

Yes. Awful. If the police training is so poor that they can't know to begin with, then it would be very apparent in the first health exam.

A police officer can be sued in an individual/personal capacity, but the money damages, even if big, would be hard collecting, the city etc. has the deep pockets, so they end up as co-defendants in the Civil action.

The country needs to hold cops personally responsible for their misdeeds.

Entirely too many cops are extremely dangerous and should not be carrying a badge and a gun. All any cop has to do is claim that he/she feared for their life, and they can get away with outright murder.

It has, in my opinion, gotten to the point where you can be shot dead for an extremely minor offence.
I remember well, the case of a young black boy, (age 10 ?) was shot dead for playing with a cap pistol.
Brady Mystic is lucky to be still alive.
