For anyone who remembers the story, this is who the young man was. This story truly touched me when I first heard about the case.

Elijah McClain was a kind and gentle soul, an introvert, musician, and massage therapist. He is remembered as “unquashably cheerful,” someone who “impacted an incredible number of lives with his positivity, charm, and humor.” Perhaps most illustrative of his unique spirit, Elijah would spend his lunch breaks playing violin to shelter animals who were waiting to be adopted so they wouldn't get lonely.

He was going home from purchasing something, was wrestled to the ground by the police for no reason and injected with Ketamine (again for no reason) by Colorado paramedics. He was someone who clearly added a lot to life, and I hope his family feels some type of solace due to this verdict.

The usual run of the story is that it moves to the back page and is quietly dropped by the media. Then a court of appeal reverses the verdict for some reason. The state then decides not to retry. And, everyone is left 'happy'. And, no real change is set for future similar incidents. And, the band played on, and on, and on.

(Should you doubt me, then stay on the story and follow it through. Be prepared, though, if it breaks your heart. Then again, you may learn something. That may be the whole point of it all. An education.)

For no reason, for both the police and the paramedics actions ? Was it a possible mistake in identity ?

The arresting officers should receive the same punishment as the paramedics. The police department, city and state should be held responsible as well. And ketamine should be permanently removed as a law enforcement tool. The promise is to protect, not inject.

I do understand your point ... but again.

Just what are the police supposed to do to subdue / arrest a criminal ?

They can't shoot them, they can't hit them, choke them , use a night stick/billy club , pepper spray doesn't work on so many .... just what are they [police] supposed to do ? Keep in mind they [police] are there to protect US, not the bad guys.

The bad guys are never going to go along easily, if they think for only a minute that resisting will work to free them.

I am not saying or trying to imply that this young man was in any way a criminal [sounds as though he was the exact opposite] But the police didn't know that when the call came out. And the paramedics usually only know what the police tell them.

Did he resist ? @ all , knowing he was innocent. That is why I preach alot even if you are totally innocent .... do not resist , give in to the arrest and follow all commands of the arresting officers.

Obviously it’s been confirmed that resisting is a great way to die. However, people may have disabilities that interfere with their ability to logically think about the situation quickly especially under duress. If I am remembering correctly didn’t this young man have autism?

Looking at the facts of the case reads like a movie thriller.

So, from what I can make out, Police were called to investigate a person wearing a ski mask who looked and acted suspiciously. This person was the victim (his "acting suspiciously has since been suggested as his dancing, since he loved music). The Police officers, saw the victim and tackled him, putting him in to a choke hold (which was not the cause of death). Then paramedics arrived, and they decided he needed sedation (I've never heard of this happening, is it a common thing, or how rare is it?!?) So they gave the victim Ketamine. However, they gave him too much, and ultimately that is why he died.

An autopsy report was released, but it gave "Undetermined" as the cause of death. However it was later found that the Police had attended the autopsy, and met with the Coroner, bringing the cause into question. A lawsuit was brought by mainstream media, and the autopsy results were changed to acknowledge an overdose of Ketamine was the cause of death.

Just to make matters worse (if they can get any worse), the Police on the scene were pictured "posing inappropriately and reenacting the carotid restraint". Not to mention, coincidentally (?!) all of the officers body cams fell off during the incident.

Good grief, so many levels of bad here. It's one big incident, but both the Police and the Paramedics did their own, individual things wrong - very wrong.
