come grow old with me, the best is yet to come...

Good evening to all- 50 bonus points to anyone who can tell me where this quote comes from...
I come to the keyboard direct from the dinner table- home-built lasagna , a spinach salad with viniagrette dressing, and a couple of glasses of fine Belgian ale inside me, feeling a bit puckish, as they say in the old world.
My friends, I treasure my childhood, youth, and raising of children ages. I treasure my working years- it was all good.
But I also treasure these later, my older years.
I can't walk as fast as I once did, But I can still walk.
My knees and ankles hurt, but then, I know I'm still alive.
I can still make a very accurate cast with a fly rod and catch a fool of a bluegill that would, if I kept it- make a good meal.
There are so many things that make me glad I'm still a part of this world.
I never, ever expected to live this long, but I give thanks that I did.
Good evening to all- Ed

Well spoken, Ed
I feel very similar to you.
My daughter came through on her way to Natural Bridge (where they make the exchange) with her kids, and we had a good time romping around the yard and acting silly. We have a park here within about 300 yards, and they love to go down there and we see who can skip a rock the most times. I hold the record of 9, but my 7 year old g-daughter can come close. My dog went along and he had a good time to. We all waded in the stream that comes through and walked across the bridges.

Isn't it amazing that one doesn't have to do anything exotic, but just something simple and have a good time?

Life is good in the "golden years", and we are enjoying it very much. Some days I don't even know what day it is. My wife likes it too, and sometimes she still has on her pajamas at 1 pm.

I have a few aches and pains also. When I play golf with my 95 yr old friend, we have a good time, even though our score is not very good. But who cares?

I hope I can enjoy these years for a good while, if God wills.

We used that quote on our wedding invitation. I also had a picture frame engraved with it as a gift to my hubby.

Do you mean this quote?

"Grow old along with me, the best is yet to be"?

It is from "Rabbi Ben Ezra" by Robert Browning. This is the first verse:

Grow old along with me!

The best is yet to be,

The last of life, for which the first was made:

Our times are in His hand

Who saith "A whole I planned,

Youth shows but half; trust God: see all, nor be afraid!''
