Comfort Food...

Meatloaf with lots of ketchup, mashed potatoes, peas for a main meal. Maybe macaroni & cheese, instead of the potatoes. I'm not a desert person. Then for a snack, big unbroken potato chips with ice cold Coke.

Like most of you, the food my brain and taste buds find comforting are some combination of at least two of these three:
Simple carbs
Heavy fats
Sugar

The problem is that they only feel comforting while I'm actually eating them. Afterwards I feel sick and kick myself for indulging in foods that I'm well aware my body can't process very well.

When my brain is engaged and I need a little something-something, I turn to pistachio nuts, berries or other fruit, hummus and veggies or other healthier snacks.

When my brain is not engaged, I pay the price.

These days it's more like this! :):playful::eek:nthego:

I can thank my hatred of eating frozen dinners for my professional culinary skills, developed from a very young age. My mom would call me from work and say, "I've got a date tonight, right after work. Make yourself a frozen dinner." No way, Jose! I experimented in the kitchen, got a few excellent cook books, and was cooking up a storm by the time I was twelve.
