Comfort foods for Fall

I love cooking and these meals are some of our fall/winter favorites

Beef barley soup with homemade fluffy biscuits.

Creamy chicken soup with dumplings.

Chili and cornbread

15 bean soup with ham (I freeze the ham bone from our Easter ham for this dish) and crusty bread

Hoppin John and cornbread.

I love autumn butternut squash soup. Made properly, it is thick and hearty.
I'm with you on that, @Lewkat.... in fact, I am going to the store for the ingredients today. My version is Indian-inspired with potatoes, cauliflower, Indian spices and coconut milk added right at the end.

Between this and the other soups I've made so far (Pork Ramen, Chicken Gumbo, and Bean with ham/sausage), we're off to a good start in fall comfort food! =D

I love autumn butternut squash soup. Made properly, it is thick and hearty. Served with tossed salad and warm crusty bread.
Beef barley stew is another favorite. My son loves it, so when I am visiting, I make plenty, so it can be divided and some frozen for later.
I’m right there with you... autumn butternut squash soup is my favorite, too. I make a Panera-style version with roasted butternut, a little pumpkin, apple cider, and cozy spices, then blend it silky and stir in a splash of cream at the end. It freezes well if you add the cream after reheating. This is the one I use: Panera-style autumn squash

The only Patak condiment I buy is lime pickle. We make our own mango chutney, marrow chutney, pickles etc.. and generally cook curry from 'scratch'. We always thought of curry as a year round dish.
When it comes to food for Autumn, this is when I get into making soups, stews, casseroles etc. Hard to say what my favourite one is, I suppose a good hearty beef broth must come near the top.

The local soup here is 'Cullen skink' which uses smoked haddock, potatoes and cream and a few other bits.

It's named after the village of Cullen.

Cullin Skink and other Seafood Chowders, Elk roast, roasted chestnuts, butternut squash soup.
Cullen skink ..and all seafood chowders, my absolute favourite. I don't make those myself but I do know a pub that sits on the shore and does an excellent seafood chowder...
