Communication without buckets

I am in my 80th year, an English man living in Switzerland. It is an interesting and difficult period in my life but I find it neatly impossible to communicate with any thoughtful peer. Mostly they seem to be in denial (my brother smoked 20 cigarettes a day until he was 100 kind of thing) or working through a bucket list. Problem is little is written by 80 + year olds about this period. I wonder if there is a group of thinking 80+ year olds who want to share ideas about how to navigate meaning in the final years in a realistic way. Was my question, the Senior Forums was the answer, so here I am

Not sure what you are asking.

Do you have a bucket list or do you want to know if others in their 80's have a list.

I'm 85 & have given up on trying to figure out what the meaning of life is & just enjoy every day I'm this side of the dirt pile.

Hi Freddy
I’m not 80 yet but know there are many 80 year olds on here for you to get to know. You’d be doing a big disservice to yourself if you only want to converse with 80 year olds. The best threads are ones that involve ALL elderly members. We all learn from one another.

Anyway, welcome to the forum. 💜

Welcome to the Forum, Freddy -

When I worked, I looked forward to retirement. Now that I'm retired, I wish there was more to do, but I try not to dwell on that. "Comparison is the thief of joy" - [Roosevelt].

I just manage one day at a time and enjoy a leisurely pace, but I get out now and then and do something enjoyable away from home.

I took it to mean that he's not interested in having a bucket list, at this point.
And that he's wanting to hear about more realistic seeming ways to find meaning.

Welcome to our discussions, Freddy.

Thank you everyone for the warm welcome, I'm overwhelmed. Abut me, I am not retired because enjoy what I do, and can do it remotely. Come to think of it it doesn't feel like work so maybe its impossible to retire from 'doesn't feel like work'. Anyone else still working at this age, I'm guessing quote a few?
