Oh, yeah. I have one, sort of, that I'll never forget:Has any of you ever received a back- handed compliment? You know, one that can seem nice but has a double edge to it? I have and trying to think if one but not had one for some time
This Post is no use without a PICTURE!!Oh, yeah. I have one, sort of, that I'll never forget:
I was arranging to pick up a check from a brokerage house in Austin. The gal I was dealing with was quite flirtatious on the phone. We had some definite "vibes" going on. When I arrived at the office, I asked for her, as directed. This very slinky, high fashion, very hot woman came out from the back office. She had a big smile on her face as she approached. When she saw me, her smile became this strange look. She said, "Hi. Oh, you sure don't look like you sound on the phone, (and then quickly added) but that's OK....." Yeah, awkward as hell, for both of us. She handed me the check, I left.
I must add, here, that throughout my life I've never had any problems with women. None. This woman simply was expecting, I'm sure, based on my deep voice, some 6'2", square-jawed, jock-looking guy, instead of a 5'10" cross between Woody Allen and John Lennon. Different strokes for different folks........
Wow. SF does get the memory banks percolating: The same thing, as above, happened with yet another brokerage house, a few years later. This second time, I was ready for it, so no big deal. At least the second gal kept her words to herself. Her disappointment was all in her body language and quick dismissal of her attention, once I signed some papers she had for me.
I wish I had them..... Those gals were HOT!This Post is no use without a PICTURE!!![]()
Definitely sound like a compliment.A lady at the grocery store in a nearby town where I was shopping stopped me and said she loved my sweater and I was all set for autumn and then she said "You go girl!". It did make me feel good but I was wondering if she really thought I looked awful and was just trying to make me feel better. I have trouble accepting compliments I guess. I did tell her thank you.
Ha!! Now that sounds like a typical Brit Compliment...A comparative stranger, a woman said to me not so long ago "You look really great and have style and have a nice personality and the finished by saying....for you are getting on a bit, arent you!.
For once in my life I was speechless.![]()
A moment ago when I was told I was a young older person. ~Chuckles~Whatās the last compliment you got?
