Convertibles - do you own one or have you previously?

I was 17 in 1957 & I had a 1954 Ford Sunliner convertible. Great in the spring & fall but not so much in the heat of summer & cold in winter.

I guess it depends on where you live & what the threat of the roof being sliced open to make theft easier. Other than that it's transportation.

Ferrari produced a model they called the F12 tdf. All 799 cars sold immediately, the UK price was £339,000.
What is so unusual about a high priced Ferrari? It's got a diesel engine.

Really? A diesel? I know F1 did some work with diesel engines but I've never heard any follow-up on its success or failures. Anything you can add?

My parents owned a 65 turquoise blue Galaxy 500 sedan with a white top. Oh, do I wish I had one now in a convertible!

BTW, I am the female half of the couple but I'll let hubby know to get the repellent. ;)

I know what you mean but that is actually one of the things I'm looking forward to. I have longish hair and can't wait for it to stream behind me in the wind. In another month when I retire, I'll have all the time in the world to comb them out!
 
I had 2 convertibles in my younger days. One was a '63 Cadillac and the other was a '56 Ford Thunderbird. It was the only time I ever owned a Ford. My dad worked for GM for 42 years so I felt disloyal owning a Ford. When we were in high school, Ford's were made fun of and called Fixed or Repaired Daily because we were in GM territory. My step-daughter and her husband bought a new Edge (they're Ford people) and had nothing but issues with it so they got rid of it after 2 years.
 
I must confess. I am guilty of being a serial MG owner. An early 70's Midget and a mid 70's MGB. The Midget was a lot of fun and was reasonably reliable. The MGB suffered from the curses of Lucas, "Lord of Darkness".
 
I had two "rag tops", a '57 Chevy and a black Buick with red leather interior which was sold "as is" and I found out later why. Engine work is expensive. I think that convertibles are more practical as a second car. I never thought about roll overs until I got older.

I remember the Sunbeam Alpine. It was a nice little four banger. Then they stuck a small Ford V8 in that tiny body, called it the Sunbeam Tiger and made a totally unsafe rocket out of the little roadster. One was featured in The Man From Uncle tv series as the car Illya drove.

Tell me about it. Lucas electrics was a curse on my MGB and my Triumph Bonneville. But are you telling me that the Midget didn't use the spark from Birmingham?
 
When I was 16, I tried to take my driving test in my new Lamborghini convertible.
The instructor came outside & I said, "Well, let's get on with the test; I've got some other errands to run today."
When he hesitated, I said "Don't worry; I won't go too fast."
He said, "Don't you have a.....normal car?"
I said, "This is the slowest car I have."
He said, "Uh.....I ain't gettin' in that car."

I understand this very well. It is similar to the time I bought my first box of condoms.
 
My uncle still drives his , chatty chitty bang bang car lol

I almost forgot... I also had an Austin Healey Sprite in the mid-'70s. I think this was the model — made in the late '60s.

It was pretty much the same as an MG Midget. After I had it for a year or so, it wouldn't go into 3rd gear, so it was basically undrivable. Another one of my vehicles for cruising up and down Main St, drinking beer with my buddy. I think I was 18.

The above were my wife and I combined, there were others that were just cars, SUVs, wagons and sedans.

For about 20 years I drove company cars that included MGBs, MGCs, Triumph TR-7, TR-8 and Jaguar XJ-S. During that time my wife owned a car, but I didn't.
