COPD

yep, also continue to smoke
you have a nebulizer-it helps
smoking is going to kill us
It doesn't have to. When I quit smoking, admittedly over 50 years ago, I went cold turkey. The reason smoking is tough to quit is because the tobacco is sprayed with at least twenty or so more, addictive chemicals. However, if that famous junkie, Rolling Stones' Keith Richards can quit, with the right help and the will to do so, anyone can.

COPD here. Quit in like 2007 or 2009 I forget which. On many meds and after an infection I had last March (could have been COVID) my lungs have deteriorated. I'm now have Moderate COPD. I wish I had never started smoking all those years ago but it's too frickin late for me to whine now.

I have 64 years of sucking on the devil's weed. Yep, stupid, stupid.
I've quit twenty times, the longest period was three months.
It is an addiction that's got me whupped. 🐍
Guess they'll bury me with a cigarette in my mouth, it would be fitting...

The way i wheeze, seems like i could get a job intimating a billows somewhere:mad:

I smoked for almost 50 years and do have COPD and a touch of emphysema. I also have a couple of nodes on my lungs which are probably slow growing cancers. I haven't smoked over 20 years now and I am doing ok. I do deep breathing exercises and I don't use nebulizers nor do I need oxygen as yet. My oximeter usually reads 97 or 98, which pleases both my doctor and me.

I too smoked for 45 years and have COPD. I did quit in 1999, but not soon enough. I am on Symbicort and nebulizers. Pretty winded most of the time and physical labor is out of the question. No oxygen yet. My oximeter is still 97 or 98 too.

Did they grow since your last check-up? Taking a Pet Scan will tell you if it is cancerous.

Not significantly, Pepper. We are for the moment leaving well enough alone, but I have to call the doctor tomorrow for further discussions. He is such a thorough young man. Thank you for asking.
There’s a CT scan you can have for people who smoked, low dose radiation, it takes less than 5 minutes.
I get it every January, having quit 10+ years ago, once you hit the 15 year mark, you don’t have to have it anymore.

Was thinking of starting a thread for emphysema but thought I would search it on the site here first and found this thread.
I am 67 years old moderate to late stage 2 emphysema. Am not advising anyone here I am not a doctor I am sharing my experiences only. I received my diagnosis 2 years ago and am not keen about side effects with inhalers so I don't use them or any over the counter drugs.

Backing up a bit 2 years ago I went to the doctor for a check up. While there I told him I had trouble breathing when coming up the stairs from our basement. I would need 5 to ten minutes to catch my breath after reaching the top of the stairs. He ran test and told me of the emphysema.
I quit smoking a week before seeing the doctor.

Any way to the point today I climb those stairs with little to no trouble. I attribute this to diet, a supplement NAC, And a peptide supplement
Taxorest A-19 a natural lung bio-regulator. I've done a lot of reading of medical papers concerning these peptides of which there are many.
Very interesting reading if you can handle long papers concerning studies and get comfortable with the language.

The NAC I've been using from the begging it helps to clear Flem from the air ways and reduce inflammation. The Taxorest A-19 opens the air ways making it easier to breath among other things. Diet you can search they do very, in my experience confectionery sugar / or table sugar is very bad causing difficulty in breathing. My goal is to avoid inhalers and oxygen therapy by stopping or slowing the progression of the emphysema. I am under the belief that inhalers etc, the standard treatment do little to treat the condition, they make it easier to live with.
There is another peptide I am experimenting with... oh that sounds crazy. In some studies researchers are seeing results of remodeling of the tissues of the lungs. (remodeling is just another term for regenerating)
The medical community of today is not yet ready to make public or state that some conditions under the umbrella term COPD. May have their progression stopped and even reversed in the not to distant future.
All that said if you want to live longer you must stop smoking.
Oh and get a home spirometer meter to track lung performance it will give you insight as to your condition and progression.

The 97 / 98 is this a FEV1 result?

I have been using a medicated inhaler for 6 months now. One puff each day. My oximeter readings are now between 95 and 97. I am not using a spirometer at all and still do some deep breathing exercises.

Hi - How's the emphysema nowadays?
Can you tell me what the new peptide you mentioned you are experimenting with and was it any good?
Got emphysema too and exploring peptides
Thanks
