Cost of food increasing

I was also struck by the increase in food prices, some temporary and others long term. Egg prices almost doubled in my area for a time, and a pound of ground sirloin now goes for almost $10. Even paper products are much more expensive, and limited in selection choices that now require purchase of a costly "mega-pack." šŸ’²

On average, food prices have gone up only about 1.5%, so far, this year....On Average...according to the "experts". However, there have been numerous spikes in various products, and those spikes will probably continue until this virus issue is resolved. Anymore, we watch the prices as we meander through the grocery store, and if something is on sale, we buy a couple of extras.

Food prices are "supposed" to be one of the primary factors for any COLA increases in Social Security....it will be interesting to see if that holds true in the next year, or two.

Not too bad. About half of my groceries come from Costco. When my husband was living it used to be about 85%. The local supermarket has good prices and I wait for sales to buy most items no matter where from. I don't buy meat so that helps a lot.

I've noticed the cost of groceries has gone up where I live since the start of 2020. I assume it's a nationwide, if not worldwide, issue. At first I thought it was because I was buying extra things here and there to keep on hand should shortages occur again. But for the past few weeks I've just been purchasing what I need and costs for some things have increased by almost 30%. This is insane.

My wife made the same observation the other day and it is insane.

Have you noticed the rapid increase in the price of food ? I've just refused to pay an extortionate amount for apples, the assistant asked if there was a problem so I told her, 'Not with the apples but I'd want shares in the orchard for that price' !
Hmmmm......and have you noticed the way they are growing the apples square nowadays, just so they can pack more in the boxes? ;)😊

Around here, we've noticed quite a series of "ups and downs" in food prices this year. One week, the price on a given item is very high, but a week or two later, it's a bargain. Today, for example, we went to the grocery store, and had a head of lettuce on our list....however, they wanted over $4 for a head, so we passed....our last head, a couple of weeks ago, was half that price.

I place most of the blame on interruptions in production, due to the virus, And issues with delivery to the stores, as more and more trucking companies are having staffing shortages. Food prices are just One of the many things that this virus is screwing up.
