Could you be without your phone access for a week?

I do have a question for those who do still only use landline phones. Are long distance phone calls still somewhat costly ?

When I was a kid there was a period of two years when my dad lived in DC because of work and my mom and I lived in Phoenix. He would call us each Sunday but we did limit the time because long distance calls were so much back then. I know it was a long time ago but just curious about that.

No cell phone here anymore. Had one when the kid was a teenager, when Dad was sick for the doctors. Son married, husband passed, now I just have a landline. I am at home most of the time. On the odd occasion, I have borrowed a phone for an emergency. Call a tow truck, have a flat fixed..... I find it kind of funny, we all grew up without all this technology, some think they could not live without it but we all know we grew up just fine. I think life was more fun back then.
Hi Blessed: Remember when we had to queue up to use the phone boxes to make a call? Some people would talk on it for half an hour, and we would all have to wait until they were finished.

Sure. My cell phone broke a while ago. I didn't get another one for months. I have a landline, so I could use that for calls, if need be.

A computer and internet, on the other hand, might be a bit harder. I also use a wifi phone line, so not sure if that counts as a cell phone. I think I could do without that for a week.

I've done without a computer and internet for a week before but that was several years ago. Things are more integrated now. Ever since I've been having internet issues, I've been learning what it would take to go without internet for a while. Not so easy.

I could easily be without my phone access for a week. My landline brings me largely appointment reminder calls and telemarketers. My cell phone largely resides in my vehicle, kept there for necessity or emergency use since roadside pay phones once available everywhere are now largely extinct…

I still have a land line. 20 years ago, I became disabled and I live alone, so I had a landline phone in every room, just in case..... Plus, I got hauled out of here, via ambulance, a few times. But I'd probably reach for my cell if something happened.
I don't even want to think of life without my phone. And I'm the guy, who used to make fun of people glued to their cells.

People lived for thousands of years without a smartphone and they managed. Today folks think that they can't live without starring at it all day long.

Me, I went to the USA recently. Put my iphone on Airplane mode, put it in my suitcase and forgot all about it until I came home and cleaned out my suitcase. Had a great trip and met a lot of great "real" Americans.

A landline is our primary phone and I'd hate to not have it in case of an emergency.

My flip / cell phone on the other hand has been sitting neglected on the dinning room table for so long I seriously doubt if I can even remember how to open it :).....so I'd have no problem whatsoever living without it for a week, month or even longer.

I could live without it, but I wouldn't want to. I use Apple Music for several hours when I'm working out at the gym and I play word games every day. I use Google Maps in my car if I'm going to someplace unfamiliar. I also receive only texts from friends, even though I would prefer emails. I rarely make/accept calls.

I doubt it. I stay connected with family members and those communications are sometimes crucial. I also got important calls from my doctors this week. Like you LadyE, I use my phone for so many things.

A few years back i went without my landline for a solid week to
10 days....could not get ATT to respond to my cries for assistance, finally a freind came to visit and was able to get them on her cell fone, and got a tech out to my house, problem
was in the lines down the block from me.....
