Could you live in the Alaskan wilderness all by yourself?

I have to ask Gary.....wilderness ? You were on line everyday..LOL!

Yes, we were
Thanks to the Verizon cell tower two miles from our cabin, we had excellent reception

Anybody.....anywhere...at least in the US...can be on line

We had this thing called a Jetpack

We could communicate with anyone in the world....and did

Ignorance feels funny, don't it....LOL

I consider that show as quite contrived....and the Bush People...heh, I consider them idiots
I've got many long time friends up there. They scoff at that simpleton show
Gary my husband said that show insults his intelligence. He likes Naked and Afraid though. We used to like Alaska the Last Frontier but the last couple years we've gotten turned off and don't watch it at all.

No, I wouldn't consider if for a minute. I'm not into that type of thing at all. I do go camping once every few years and that's enough outdoors for me.

My husband and a friend of his wanted to go up to Alaska and were planning to go till he met me. I always tell him anytime he regrets his choice I'll help him pack but so far he hasn't taken me up on it. ;)

We do enjoy Naked and Afraid
...and talk about trying it

Then laugh and laugh and laugh

We'll wait til our show comes on;

Naked, Wrinkled, and Scaring Animals...turning them to vegans

Yer husband's intelligence is intact

Gary, Naked and Afraid seemed to be having a marathon today and since it was 109* outdoors we stayed in and watched it all day and into part of the evening. We actually talked about writing to the producers of the program and suggesting they do a senior show. Maybe only 5 days (my husband says at lest 7) and let them take their medications with them. I know of a lot of elderly people who would probably do real well. I wouldn't consider it for a second but it wouldn't bother me at all for my husband to go. (I could hide his glasses before he left ;))

I like the name you suggested, if this goes anywhere I'll suggest it to them.

We met a 91 year old man in Walmart the other day who we would have sworn was in his 70s.

I wouldn't last very long. After weight loss, I'm always cold. In fact, it's 97 degrees in my living room right now & I'm comfortable. I don't use the air conditioning unless I have company. And I'm always hungry.
I went for a 30-minute walk yesterday. It was 107.

The saddest non-fiction movie I ever saw was "Into The Wild."

We have that one

Tough to watch

and the kid was sorta doing OK...until he misidentified a plant
Well, he was slowly starving before that. I don't think he would have lasted much longer either way.

I agree, that was sad. It would have been better if they hadn't shown all the flashbacks. Edit: Sorry I was referring to The Wild. Into The Wild was sad too.

wouldn't suit me -far to cold -and to shoot my food -I would rather starve ' so no is the answer '
but to be alone with one friend possibly ' in warmer conditions - I could do .

Never ..

adventure is not part of my vocabulary anymore

Absolutely! All I need are all my projects and books. Lots of supplies and a nice stove to cook on. Someone to fetch the wood and do all the heavy lifting and chores that I wouldn't be able to do. I would need reassurance that my family are all ok and in an emergency I could get out. It would be nice to share the experience with someone but I would ban the TV,radio, and internet. That would leave my hubby out for sure.

"Alaska the Last Frontier" is about as contrived as it gets. The Kilcher homestead is on the outskirts of Homer, AK, where there are grocery stores and modern conveniences aplenty. Reality show? Pfffftttt...

I don't know, does it ?.......

My idea of roughing it is to check into a Holiday Inn and finding out that the remote control for the TV is broken.

But, seriously, I don’t know. I never thought about it because I never had a desire to do it.

Gary.....Is a Jetpack the same as a mobile hotspot or is it satellite enhanced?

Got me
If I had to pick one, I guess mobile hot spot

All I know is it kept us in telecommunication, and the bonus was being on the web
Heh, in our ignorance, we packed that thing around with us wherever we went
Then, folks down the path educated us

The thing was a bit of a pain at first, as it'd conk out, and we'd have to reboot it....typing in the password on that device was a real effort

But, once we got used to it, all we needed to do was make sure it was charged
Believe me, I had it hooked to the genny every minute of every day
I didn't run the cabin genny during the day, but the few hours we ran it at night was plenty to keep it charged
