Couple facing threat of eviction over handicapped ramp

I have a feeling a Go-Fund-Me will be set up and this couple will become millionaires over this incident.

did you watch it..it's only 4 minutes long. The lady has probably not very long to live. The landlord has dug his heels in he wants them out !

I hope someone starts a Go Fund me for them, they are definitely deserving of help...

That is ABSURD! I have worked with disabled vets for decades and I believe the DAV or America Legion can provide them with a ramp here in NY- the ramps here, however, have to conform to a safety code , so maybe that is why this is happening to this woman. My severely disabled neighbor got a ramp built by one of the veteran orgs a few years ago and he says he feels very safe with it and his wheelchair.
The VA however gave him a battery operated chair and it only has 3 wheels, but he needed a four wheeler because his whole property is on slopes. He already fell off it but does not want to take it back to VA for a better one.

I held the door at a local fish fry one day for a man on a 4 wheel electric chair. But he said Oh that's OK, they know I am here and always bring the meal out to me. We had quite a talk, He was a disabled veteran, 90 years old, and looked younger and said he lived just a few house down from the Fish Fry place, on a level pavement-and the VA had given him the electric chair so I know they have 4 wheelers.

Still, a ramp is a ramp and it is outrageous to read this news.

My husband won an EEOC case under the Americans With Disabilities Act -1992. It was the first case the ADA lawyers got in the whole state. The disabled in USA cannot be discriminated against.
Is there any law like that in England?

I hope too that someone starts a GoFundMe page and they should get a lawyer with some of the donations, and sue the
landlord.

The reporter hit the nail on the head in that the owner of the park wants to sell the property.

The attorney who was interviewed said what I had been thinking is the park may very well be in violation of federal law reference to people with disabilities.

The ramp looks very well made & is attractive which would only add value to the property at no cost to the park owner.

Hopefully some attorney will see this & work pro-bono for this couple.

EDIT ADD ON: An attorney could file paperwork with the court fighting this & the way the system is, put it on hold for a very long time that would give the couple both peace of mind, especially her.

Evictions are not done overnight. I've seen evictions that took months to get the tenant out who didn't want to leave. These cases weren't a back & forth in court between the two parties, but a tenant who just refused to leave & continued to live there until forced out. In these cases, the court ordered the Sheriff's Office to remove said tenant.

Sometimes you just can't have a reasonable relationship with a manager of rental properties.
The one that gets me though is the USPS. They fill your box with junk mail. In there are 3 bills.
Then they refuse to deliver your mail because they filled your box with junk mail. Majority
of my trash is torn up junk mail. $800 hearing Aids, Magazines about the surrounding States,
The need to spray 2-4-D on the yard, more magazines about furniture, going gambling on boats, etc.

Even though the landlord is following the procedure for eviction I hope that a pro bono attorney will find a way to cite this and prove this is an illegal eviction. Then continue on the couples behalf to sue the landlord .

I'm not usually in favor of lawsuits but this is one that screams for social justice.

I'm sure we all have seen peoples stuff sitting out at a street corner & when they come home from work they ?

Unfortunately, having cancer does not meet the contractual requirement to get authorization for the ramp. I can assure you that someone in the park was complaining about the "illegal" ramp. The park was doing what contractually it was supposed to do.
People live in these parks and home owner associations, and don't realize the rights they sign away to live there.

However the builder specifically asked the landlord for permission to build the ramp and was given permission...as the home owner said in the video, the last thing he wanted to do was to fall foul of any rules.

According to the news item, the contractor and tenant were never given written or oral permission. My ex lived with a H.O.A. and death row inmates have fewer restrictions than she had. For a time, I lived in a mobile home park, and it was similar. For a ramp that size, you would definitely need written permission.

Watch the Video. at 1.45 the builder said he got permission...

This is an outrage. First the ramp looks good and is very well constructed. The contractor could easily remove the ramp after this poor woman passes and reuse the wood. It's also not uncommon for ramps to be installed in homes, including mobiles as people age.

This is some kind of sick power struggle on the part of this manager. Something very wrong with him. They need a big protest at that office. I'm glad media is involved and the reporter was good, she went after that jerk.
