Covid Makes 3rd Appearance at Nursing Home

Still love 50's & 60's music!
Well we have 2 residents at the nursing home with Covid. How they got it? Visiting family members maybe? Once again we have to wear masks. When we enter their rooms it's gown, face shield or goggles, N95mask, and gloves of course. Sometimes we get the feeling that it will never go away for good.

Yeah, it probably won't go away for good. We'll have to get booster shots every year for the rest of our lives.

I got my booster a couple days ago along with a flu shot. My wife and I are going on a trip in about two weeks. We're going to wear masks in the plane and in any crowded area, just in case. There's no sense getting sick if we can avoid it.

If it isn’t Covid it will be something else.

It seems like outbreaks of the Norovirus are becoming an annual event.

I suppose the important thing is how quickly we notice the trend and put controls in place to limit exposure and infection.

I noticed on the news that New York State is working on a new piece of legislation that will allow a family member or caregiver access to residents of skilled nursing facilities during designated health emergencies like Covid.

I’m not sure how it would be handled or how I feel about it.

Like so many things the Devil is in the details.

Goggles?? They make you wear goggles? That’s a new one for me.

I'd rather wear goggles or safety glasses, instead of the face shield. Sometimes we are given the choice of face shield or safety glasses. Most prefer the safety glasses that are made of lightweight plastic.
Oh I’d rather wear googles or safety glasses also instead of a full face shield. I’d just never heard of such stringent safety measures before but seniors are probably the most vulnerable so it actually makes sense.

It will go away for good. Never doubt it.

Here in the Province of Ontario, which has a population of 15 million people , in the last week there were 625 persons in hospital beds with Covid, a 17 percent increase over the last week, and 5 people died in Ontario of Covid related illness last week.

The Ontario Ministry of Health expects an upwards surge in Covid cases as the cold weather sets in. Covid booster shots and flu shots are going to be available for free, starting on October the first, for all people in Ontario.

What brand vaccine did you get and what was your bad reaction?

I've gotten Pfizer each time and have never had more than a mild reaction that went away within 24 hours.
I can't remember, but it was different the fourth time. I was ill for weeks, pains all over, insomnia. It was as if my body was sent into alarm is the only way I can describe it. I never want that again.

That sounds worse than actually getting covid! Maybe you got covid when you went out to get vaccinated and you're attributing the symptoms to the shot rather than the virus.

I had covid last year and I was a little sick with a mild fever for about three days, so it wasn't very bad. I wasn't bedridden or anything. But I was also vaccinated and the symptoms might have been more mild because of that.

It won't. Flirt is new variant. Just changes.

It's gone already. Both residents tested negative. The first time it went on and on for months. The 2nd time it went on for about a month. This time, just a few weeks. I hope I never see the original strain again. That took the lives of at least ten residents. :(

There is now yet another virus being brought into Europe from Africa. This one is even more deadly with most cases ending in death. However, it seems to be spread through intimate contact so not transmitted so easily.
The thing with Covid is that it seems to stay in your system so you think you have caught it again when actually it is a recurrence of the previous bout.

Nursing homes were the last places here to no longer require mask wearing by staff/ visitors.
You do still have to do a RATS test every 48 hours when working/ visiting.

I received the Covid vaccination yesterday and it was so painless, I thought he hadn't given it to me. The arm isn't even sore just a small red mark where the needle went in the arm. I think the vaccination helps me.

The manufacturer is listed on your vaccination record card.

I got the 4th vaccine shot last week. Absolutely no reaction at all. I did have a mild reaction to the second vaccine shot, but nothing to the boosters.

I get the feeling that this disease will keep mutating into different forms, like the flu virus does. We may need boosters every year or so. That doesn't bother me at all.

I've been exposed at work twice in the last months without a mask. I had been wearing an N95 well past requirement but couldn't take it anymore. So far, didn't get it. I've only had covid once. I think almost 2 years ago.
