Cuba in talks with USA

I truly hope that these talks are productive and lead to better relations!
I believe that for humanitarian reasons, it would help Cuba a lot. It should probably go without saying that if the 2 counties could become friendly with one another and with aid from the U.S., Cuba may become a territory of the U.S. I wouldn’t think Cuba would be favorable with the U.S. annexing their country. Most likely, Cuba may want to keep their autonomy, but it’s unlikely that the U.S. would agree to allowing Cuba to maintain communism as their form of government. Food for thought, anyway.

Militarily, it could aid the U.S.

This is all pure conjecture on my part.

I don't see this happening. The US is pretty stingy with aid for the 3.2 million living in our existing Caribbean territory (Puerto Rico). Can't imagine we'd consider adding another 11 million, not that Cuba (or Russia) would be amenable to the idea.

Right now, Cuba has people starving. For the U.S. to get their foot in the door, it would be a good way to offer humanitarian aid.
The U.S. has shipped food, water and medical supplies to Cuba without their request.

It may be a bit of a courtship or bidding war to see just how much support it can generate from the United States, Russia, China, etc…

I seriously doubt that Russia or China would want to give up such a strategic bit of real estate…their equivalent to Greenland. 😉

It does seem to be sort of the country of the month club for the current administration and I fear that this trend may not end well as we weaken relations with those countries that have traditionally been our allies.

We could allow them to have a functioning economy by eliminating the trade embargoes. Doing so would result in an enormous reduction in poverty there.

From forever, Trump hs wanted Cuba. He will not take Cuba as a "state" to pour money into, the people here would really hate that. No handouts for Cuba; if Trump goes in its all or nothing....so he's gonna wait a bit till his side of things in the middle east quiet down and if he hasn't gotton Cuba through talks by then, then he will go in and flatten her.

He absolutely means to have Cuba.

Maybe so, but do your really think the leaders of Cuba that are in power now will allow the economy to keep most of the benefits??

Cuba was in pretty desperate shape before the US invaded Venezuela; Cuba's primary souce for oil.
The US immediately cut Cuba off from receiving not only that source of oil but also stated that any country supplying oil to Cuba would face economic repercussions from the US.

It would seem this was done to bring Cuba to it's knees economically and it's worked well. The USA is now in a much better position to enter talks with Cuba about improving the current situation (largely created by the US) but, the US will be making big demands in exchange for improving their economic conditions. Exacty what those demands will be has yet to be revealed - likely annexation of some sort and of course a regime change. Will Trump send Marco in? He's got Cuban roots.

The only benefit I can see for the US taking control of Cuba would be to get rid of the current government therefore cutting all ties to Russia and other communist regimes. I do believe it would be of huge benefit to the general populartion of Cuba to have the US take control of the country.

The US could also really improve Cuba's main industry which is tourism. It's got fabulous beaches but many resorts there are dated and run down; in need of updating/repair/replacement and the current food supply system needs major improvement. Tourism revenue could be pretty significant with proper management of the industry and the US could look to that to offset expenses it might incur in getting Cuba back up and running properly.

I don't agree with the way the US has created this economic mess for Cuba; both previous embargo issues & now the availability of oil but, as I mentioned previously the US is now in a position to alleiviate past suffering by the Cuban population by getting the country back up on it's feet and running properly and that would be of huge benefit for the general population.
