Curious, what music are young people listening to today?

I stopped trying to keep up in the early 2000's. I do hear some new songs that interests me once in awhile but I don't take time to research the artists or anything. I know the majority on this forum will think that today's music is junk and a lot of it is (just like in any era) but there are talented artists out there. The thing that has changed is how the music is discovered. It's not by the radio stations anymore.

Great Van Fleet is a metal band and it's obvious that they were heavily influenced by Led Zeppelin. Hey, if you are going to be influenced by a band from the past it might as well be a legendary one.

A lot of the music I hear from passing cars, you couldn't pay me to listen to it. There is also a lot of synthetically produced music, using computer programs and not real instruments. I have a large collection of music ranging from the Big Band Era to the early nineties, then I lose interest.

Just out of curiosity, I glanced at the hottest video' s on YouTube. Most of the songs appeared to be just pop fluff, much like stuff from my earlier days but a couple seemed to be the style of music I used to enjoy listening to when I was younger. I picked this video and I find it pleasant to listen to. Nothing groundbreaking but to those younger, it might sound like it is.

BTW, when I think of the 80's music, my first thought is the sound of synthesizers. Many bands were criticized at the time (including the Who) for bringing the synthetic sound to their music.

I got a chuckle out of this title so I listened to this song and I enjoyed listening to it. I've always liked songs that had a "dreamy" sound to them. It was under the Hot Indie Videos for the week category.

I try and try to get into new original music.
Not talking about a 'cover' of older music.

I sometimes feel they don't spend the time to develop a base of engineering verses their vision.
By that I mean, rush the song to the market without doing the work in the studio.

I like a number of new artists who puts in the work to create something new.

Side Note: We are spoiled by those artists who created the label 'Classic Rock'. IMHO
