Current health issues, and feeling very unsteady. Plus took a fall

So, sit down and put your feet up...Marie is gonna tell a story. For a while, since my surgery I have had issues keeping my balance. Not dizzy, just a sense of not being able to stay upright.
A couple days ago I took a fall...tripped trying to walk past something. Luckily I had my alert button on, and had to call for help. Also,a few days ago I went to the doctor for some breathing issues, and at my request they tested me for a UTI *Urinary Tract Infection. Got meds for both.
I have this week felt unsteadier than ever. A friend here, a former nurse, suggested it MAY be related to the UTI.I go back to my dr in a couple weeks for a follow up to all this. I keep my walker within reach at all times. And my anxiety is kicking in big time.

I guess I just need to vent and talk things out.
Also, being in the middle of the Blizzard of 22, tomorrow, Christmas, has pretty much been postponed for a while. My family is closer to Buffalo. Worse than here. Still a travel ban.

Sorry to hear of your health problems. I share your feelings of increased anxiety. My neuropathy is very painful lately. Might be that cold cold air, but I don't know. I share the feeling of unsteadiness also, because I never know when a flare up will happen. I guess we just have to do the best we can.

Ouch! UTIs can wreak havoc and mess with lots of things that seem unrelated. Take care and call the doc back if you don't think the meds are working!

Or...maybe a middle ear infection? That could cause you to feel a bit wobbly, too.

Pretend Christmas isn't happening until after the storm and it's after-effects clear up.

Marie, I am so sorry to hear that things are going so badly for you. I had a hip replacement about 18 months ago, my son and grandson came and stayed for about 3 days after I got home. My son was good enough to take my big dog home with him for a month.

Still recovering, I watched every step, used my walker, had a shower chair. It is still hard. I am not longer needing the walker but I still watch, go slow, don't want to take the chance I might fall. I have moved or taken up everything I could see might be a hazard.

I read about your recent problems regarding your issues and now you know that you have an UTI that is causing other problems. You are on medication that should take care of it. I will say that many that have mobility problems may have additional issues keeping up with personal hygeine. If you do not shower or change your undergarments at least every other day you are just setting your self up for additional UTI's Some days it is hard for me but I have the shower chair, I can at least get in there and do a basic quick clean. I do not shampoo my hair everyday but make sure I keep clean.

I also suffer from anxiety/panic, I hope you have discussed this with your doctor. I live alone but have medication for anxiety that does not make me dizzy. If you have not discussed this with your doctor now is the time to do so. Just not having constant anxiety about being alone can make a big difference.

I wish you well, there are many here, including myself that will be alone tomorrow. I will be here on the board if you would like to chat.

Marie, UTIs can become much more serious as we age.
My SIL went to pick up my MIL and when she got there MIL was sitting on the couch in what seemed like a catatonic state. They got her to the Dr and it was from a UTI!
Take care of yourself, have some tea (liquids) and snuggle in.
Hope you have a peaceful night.

I will interject that it "Might" be due to UTI. One of out past presidents was seen with a long ignored case which resulted in sepsis. Which can be fatal.

Further, my BIL had issues for 2 years with vertigo. It's when calcium breaks off and floats in your inner ear. I had a taste of vertigo once years ago. It was for all of 5 seconds. I didn't eat for 12 hours.

Small bits could cause it. But see the doc for professional advice.

Tomorrow are you seeing any of the folks who are in your community? It really helps to have those who are physically close to you aware of your issues. {{{hugs}}} Those of online will be watching for communication from you also.

So sad to hear you had that fall and are having other issues Marie. Good you're getting medication for the UTI, that may have been a cause of your recent incontinence. Thank goodness you have that alert button, seems like that is a life saver.

Please take it easy, stay hydrated, try not to get up too fast, and please be extra careful. Merry Christmas to you my friend, holiday hugs from me. I will be thinking of you and wishing you well. 🧡

A friend of mine was treated for her UTI but it returned as soon as she finished her medication. It seems her potassium was low and she needed an IV to bring her levels up. Please take care of yourself!

I STAND WITH UKRAINE also.

Yes, in 2020 I had a series of UTIs. about 6. They finally gave me Cipro and that was my last one until now.
