I was still in California when the Manson case happened. I guess having been over
flooded with Beach Boys and that case, I just tuned it all out.
Last night I picked a show that would bore me to sleep and chose the one on Manson.
Not that it matters, it was just surprising to me how quiet this connection must have been kept.
Can't blame them for that.

Did Charles Manson’s Relationship With The Beach Boys Lead Him To Murder?

I had heard that one of the Beach Boys had mental illness, and that they partied and fooled around with psychedelics. I can understand how they would meet up and hang with each other. That time was the time of free love, and madness.

It was Brian who had the illness, I had always heard about him and his struggles but Dennis I can't ever remember any neg. reports on him.
That is why this shocked me. Maybe that is why they had Brian's problems so much in the news during that time.

I remember reading about this in Helter Skelter. Fascinating book, especially if you're a Beatles fan. I still think of Manson's twisted interpretations of the songs on the White Album when I listen to it.
Guess that is why I hadn't heard about it, I never read that book, was going to and just never did. The White Album was not one of my favs, sort of like I knew the end of them was coming.

What a strange and eerie time that was!

Manson was definitely after Terry because, being a nice guy, he told Manson he'd take his music to his mother's offices and give it another good look. Also, he promised to bring it up again with the Beach Boys. Doris, got wind of all this, and did not like what this Manson guy was about. She advised her son to get new digs, so he and Candace Bergen moved and were issued a body guard by Doris.

I only know this as Doris was a patient of mine and we became fast friends for many years afterward. She gave me a thumbnail explanation of what was what. I really wasn't too interested as the entertainment industry and its denizens were really not the sort of folks I generally associated with. I was a medical scientist, and my mom and her friends were enough for me in the performing categories.

That was in Bugliosi's book Helter Skelter and a mention on some documentaries. Manson was also a failed or aspiring musician besides a criminal. Sometimes random isn't random.

That was an issue during the case and prosecution. They wanted to show it wasn't random and Manson or someone from the gang knew about the location/s of some of his murders. It at least got him into or interested into that type of residence ie Tate murders.

Haven't seen the TV show you watched, @IrishEyes. Several years ago I borrowed a book from the library, a memoir by a woman. I've forgotten her name. Anyway, when she was a young, confused teenager adrift in L.A., she was taken into Manson's group. She wasn't involved in the murders.

Besides administering drugs to infuence such people, Manson had a 'dictates & rewards' system going within his "family".

This girl got to know Dennis Wilson a little, and said he was easygoing and, unlike Manson, didn't try to exploit her. On the contrary, he wanted to know what she really cared about and liked to do, and he didn't come on to her for sex. I don't know the whole story of Dennis Wilson and Manson but, from the book I read, I got the sense Wilson chose not to get too close (or remain close) with Manson. I seem to remember he was out of the picture by the point Manson began plotting the home invasion and murders.
