Designer Babies...Have People gone nuts??

Heard about this on the radio this morning. Much like some celebrities wanted specific "designer" dogs, like a PomiPoo, and spend thousands of dollars to get one. People now are going to be able to make themselves a "designer baby". They will use three people to create the baby of their dreams, which will have all the specific looks, eye color, etc. that they desire. There was a movie made in 1997 called Gattaca, about a future society where parents can produce children who are genetically engineered to be 'superior'.
It was interesting because a normally born 'inferior' man has a dream of being an astronaut (a privilege only offered to those who are 'superior').
He goes to great lengths to assume the identity of a 'superior', so he can fulfill his dream.
Worth a watch.
Especially since it appears this technology has arrived.

I think without even looking, they are nuts. Some of the "old" sci-fi flics are coming true. There was one on Twilight Zone about a mother that takes her teen daughter to a doctor that will make her beautiful, just like the other girls. He finally does just that, she ends up looking identical to the other gals that happened to chose that model. It's already happening in hollyweird, but the really freaky thing is it's backfiring, people are coming out from under the knife deformed, look a Joan Rivers, Michael Jackson.

When they start messing with genetics, well, I just hope I'm outa here really soon.
