I just did, the phone rang, I looked at the screen, and it said call from me [my name] my phone number. So my rule is, if i do not recognize the number I do not answer. Well I do sorta know that guy & the number....what the ?

I answer, and a voice says that I have ordered something to the tune of $279.00 on my credit card ....... I did not.

Then this voice says , if you did not order this item, call ? they spoke so fast, there was no way in hell I could remember the number they rattled off, or grab a pencil. At the end of that the voice says if I did order such, just hang up, and the order will process ?? Then 'they' hung up.....It was obviously a machine.

I haven't bought anything .......... I tried *69 , nothing.

If something does arrive ? and a charge is entered on that card ? I guess I'll just call the police.

The fact that the call was coming from "yourself" should have tipped you off right away that it was hokey.

Once you answered, there were all sorts of red flags.

If you had really ordered something for $279.00, why would anyone need to call you back to check if you really had ordered it?

This is a favorite ploy of scam artists. If you had actually called them back, they would have found a way for you to give them your credit card number.

Oh yes. I have received a call from myself. I didn't answer it but as soon as it quit ringing, I turned around and blocked my own phone number. Now, they can try but that's all they can do because it doesn't ring at all on my blocked numbers.

I got an email stating I charged the same amount ($279.00) and to sign in,using their website'
see the charge..I know I did not charge anything and deleted the email. Today I signed in like I normally do and there was no charge to my account.

I think you should immediately contact your credit card company, give them the information you just stated, and ask them to make sure nobody charged anything to your card claiming to be you.

Oops, I didn't answer the question. No, I've never received a call from 'myself.' But whenever I answer a call and I can immediately see it's not legitimate, I just hang up.

Bottom line .... NEVER answer a phone call from yourself, ever... When you look at the phone screen and see your number, you have to know it's nothing but trouble waiting to happen.

I have been having phone & electrical problems ever since a storm went through , about two weeks ago. I had to buy a new phone/machine. That's the main reason I did answer....and I saw my own number, which has never happened before.....I'll contact the c/card folks, see what they have to say.

That is a huge current scam in the US. Just make sure not to call back or give your cc number or any personal information. Scammers are targeting seniors because they think we are either senile or dumb.

@rgp contact your credit card company and let them know so they are aware and can check any fake transactions
I have had several of these false purchases and my credit card company has caught them each time
Apparently we all have certain times of the day we are more active purchasing and one of the fakes was at 2am
That was what alerted the credit card company and they contacted me
If someone phones and says they are from your credit card company they should give you a phone number so you
can phone them back to be certain the credit card company phonecall is not a scam either

You definitely need to report them not only to your credit card company, but to the authorities in OH and maybe even contact the local news stations so they can do a spot on it. It could help keep others safer.
