I was seeing a consultant at the hospital yesterday, one I'd not seen before, and as I walked into his office, he looked up from his desk and said quizzically ''Mrs Holly''? .. He looked back down at his notes as though checking my details and said.. ''Oh you look much younger than your age '' (I'm in my early 60's)

He genuinely meant it I could see that, and he was around my age so not some youngster ...so given that my health hasn't been all that great in the last couple of years, it really brightened my day

So, have you ever received an unexpected compliment that cheered you up..?

Just a couple of months back I had a gal tell me, "you look pretty good for a guy your age"......I guess she thought that was supposed to be some sort of a compliment. NOT !

To me that's kinda like saying, "hey, for a fat girl you don't sweat much".

As the head of my church's prayer circle group,I mail cards to church members&families get well or sympathy depending on the situation.
I never expect to get a reply,a couple weeks ago I got a lovely note from church member thanking me for what I wrote. It made me feel good Sue

Working around thirtysomething’s here in the woods, folks are surprised when they learn my age

And say nice things

I do like that

Other’n that, I hand ‘em out like candy from a stranger, especially in town, to old guys all spiffed up.
Seems to quicken their step.

"hey, for a fat girl you don't sweat much".
too funny
lap coffee is hot

A neighbor told me I looked beautiful the other day. It was unexpected and a very sweet compliment. Hols you do look younger than your age - much. :)

I was in a liquor store last weekend, buying a birthday present and the man behind the counter did the routine asking for an ID. I handed over my drivers license and he yelled, "GIRL! You ain't no 71 years old! You've stole somebody's license! I oughta call the cops to arrest you for lookin' so good!"

I had a good laugh. I'm sure he pulls that with every older lady who comes in, but it sure made my day anyway.

I've always looked much younger than my years, which was really annoying when I was young and people would comment on it. Now, I love it :bowknot:

Same as me Pinky. It used to drive me nuts when people always took me for much younger than I was, and I couldn't get served in places that had an age limit ( we don't have ID cards here)... but like you, it's great now I'm older... :D

I can certainly remember wanting, at 16 or 18, to look older. The moral to that story is to be careful what you pray for.

jujube, I recall one instance where my best friend's new boyfriend was in jail for illegal gambling. She wanted to visit him, so we did up our hair and makeup to try to appear 18 (we were 17). We were really nervous, but there were no
questions asked. Fortunately, their relationship didn't last.

I find all compliments unexpected but certainly welcoming.

^^ This. And my favorite ones are from my husband. Earlier today I was climbing the ladder to get onto the roof of our RV to clean the acorns off. Hub was standing on the ground, looking up. He said, "nice view" and I replied "still crazy after all these years." :D

Awwwww that’s so sweet . Those are my favourite types also.

Everybody seems to consider it a big compliment to be told you look young. Personally, I'd rather be told that I have a sharp, witty mind, and it's wonderful that at my ancient number of years, I still have all my marbles! ;)

So would I, but as I don't have the latter I'd know they were lying so I'll settle for the former....
