Many years Ago I served on Jury Duty. I was 21yrs old(a long time ago). I still remember the defendants' name and address. It was for rape, incest, and corrupting the morals of a minor. Thank God I am too old to serve again. Would you like to serve or have you ever served before?

I have never been asked to serve.. still time tho'.. .. but since I haven't been asked in all this time, I doubt I will be asked.. I will refuse on medical grounds if I am.. can't sit in one place for more than a few hours due to my back problem..

I remember my father serving on a Jury.. it was a Murder case.. back in the 70's..

Unlike in the USA, here in Canada jurors MUST remain unnamed, and they cannot be photographed or interviewed by the press, and they cannot write a book about their jury deliberations. A section of the Canadian Criminal Code deals directly with the duties and restrictions placed on jurors in Canada, and the CCC section provides for a 5 year prison sentence for jurors who break the silence requirements. The point is to make sure that jurors are actually preserving the secrecy of their deliberations, and how they reached their decision. In Canadian criminal high court trials, the accused party may choose trial by jury, or Justice alone. The theory is it is easier to convince one person ( The Justice on the bench ) than 12 people. Jury decisions in Canada must be agreed to by all 12 Jurors, beyond any reasonable doubt. In Canada certain persons are automatically rejected by the attorneys as Jurors , based on their type of employment. Examples would be Doctors, Police officers, religious ministers, members of the Federal or Provincial Legislatures, and naturally, Lawyers. JimB.

No. I went for the roll call or whatever it was. It was interesting that one time, but no thanks. The judge was nice, not pompous or anything. One thing they asked is if anyone had been a victim of a crime, or anyone close to them. There were some other questions. And people stating why they could not serve on the jury. Religious reasons, husband getting chemo, major trips planned, etc.. One guy said he was a 'raging alcoholic' and unable to serve. I think he was lying but not a bad story.

I knew this woman from work someplace and she recognized me as she leaned and said something to her attorney when they called ne. We do the same type of work. I could not exactly place her. She got into some altercation in the parking lot of a rural store making racial slurs it was said. Idiot. I don't know the outcome. I was excused and then got a permanent excuse from jury duty from my MD due to my history of abuse.

same here

I served once. I was curious to see what was involved. We sat around most of the week just waiting to be called. When we were eventually called, I was an alternate. When the jury went on deliberation, alternates were dismissed.

I got called twice more. The first was a civil trial and I got a doctor's excuse for something minor. The last one was a federal trial, but I had just gotten out of the hospital and was excused for that reason. Now I'm too old.

Several times have had to report for possible selection but only once served on a jury for a civil case where a city garbage truck permanently injured a young boy. That lasted a few weeks and then a settlement was reached. California doesn't have a maximum age for serving but does for medical excuses. Have been expecting to get called again.

Well, there was a jury, all women, and if I hadn't of blown them all kisses and winked at them all, I'd probably have gone down for 10 years. 😊

I'm jesting of course, yes, I served on a jury and found it so boring. 😊

Same here, too. But I think there's a point at which former jurors here are allowed to write a book or be interviewed for a book about the case, unless a judge ordered an indefinite gag-order.

Called to serve 3 times, and my juror number made it to the 3rd screening once, but not to the selection process. So, called but never served.

Just as well. I was a single dad, and aside from scheduled vacations, I don't think I took off more than 3 or 4 days in all the years I worked.

I have been called four times and only got picked once. That one time, we all got ready for the trial, and then they told us the parties had settled out of court that morning...so no, I have never served on a jury!

Did you ever serve on Jury Duty

asked to once or twice
never got the call to actually serve

I have, however, been the reason a few times

Served once, called a couple more times. Was not a pleasant experience. Incest with father who had done it before but claimed he did not do it "this time".

Called quite a few times. Actually served 3 times, one civil, one medical malpractice, and one criminal case. I was the foreman (forewoman?) on the criminal one. Two others were settled just before the trial was to start.

Been actually picked as a juror twice, first time in 1980 for an armed robbery/burglary(2 defendants). Convicted on all counts. It was a good experience, the judge had the jury meet the attorneys in his chambers after the verdict was returned. Very interesting and great to know that we made the right decision, as the defense attorneys indicated that their clients were in fact guilty.
The 2nd time was seated as a juror was a couple years ago, right as we were to begin the trial the judge informed us that the defendant had taken a plea agreement and that the trial was over. He was a parolee that was found to be in possession of a firearm, and some other prohibited contraband.

One question? Is drinking as a juror allowed? This hag would come back after lunch stinking to high-heaven and had a purple nose. I didn’t really know what to do about it.
