Dining out or dining in?

I like both...even though I am alone and going on 86 years I like to cook.
I have an upright freezer so make my own soups, muffins, cookies, etc.
Here at the senior's residence we can, and I do, go out each month, to
a pub one night, to a restaurant another and out for lunch as well.
Once in a while I will go down to the dining room here, especially if
they have a special night, last week it was St. Patrick's day, so we
had corn beef and cabbage, not my favourite but there were six of
us and I enjoyed eating with others.
Well at 86 you are doing fantastic! Yay you! I love cabbage & beef ..but not corn beef it is just too salty to me

When we dine out, which isn't often, I like a good seafood or Chinese buffet. I do have a habit of picking a meal apart and figuring out how much cheaper I could have made it for. I personally don't like steak, but I have heard that steak houses get the best cuts of meat. In that case, maybe it's a good deal depending where you go and the price you have to pay. We traveled across country to visit our daughter a few times. After dining out for several days it was nice to come home to my brand of coffee, my meals fixed my way. A creature of habit I guess. After eating out day after day everything started to taste the same no matter where we stopped.

I like to eat out once in a blue moon, but not too often. When we were younger and both working we ate out a lot more. After watching shows on TV like Kitchen Nightmares with Gordon Ramsey, I started to gross out on some of the filth and unsanitary conditions in a lot of restaurants, even the expensive ones. Also, in recent years a lot of health issues in the news about employees who don't wash their hands, etc.

Like Ameriscot, my husband is an excellent chef and has made some very good meals over the years. He started cooking a lot when his parents moved in with us due to health issues, he's made a lot of really good dishes for us. I'm happy to clean up afterwards when he does the cooking, well worth it.

So, how do you feel about it?

Dine in? Dine out?

Having a meal "out"(breakfast, lunch or dinner) is fun, maybe once a month. Maybe more, maybe twice a month.

I like diningin though, preparing meals that are done with "healthy" in mind, and of course having leftovers is a major goal as well. ;-)

I'm not much for eating out. I too prefer to know what's in my food and prepare it at home. I'm a lousy cook and I don't like to cook so I don't eat very fancy.

We rarely ate out when I was a kid. My mother was prone to making scenes in restaurants with complaints. It was never a good experience.

My mother didn't make scenes but was quick to send food back if she didn't like the look or taste of a meal, even a meal that I was eating and enjoying! She thought the meat I got was too well done...

Just to give mama a break in the kitchen we normally eat out one maybe two meals on the weekends.......either mid morning breakfast, lunch or supper.

Never go anywhere expensive, mostly local diners and mom & pop cafes that serve a good meal.

Wow Kitties, I cringed when I read about your mother. How horrible that must have been for you.

Thanks Shalimar. I can remember more than once sitting in a restaurant with tears when I was a child. I think we finally just stopped eating out anywhere. I think my step dad liked to eat out but that came to an end.
