Disney lays off 250 computer people and replaces them with techs from India!

According to an NPR report this is a cost saving move that is facilitated by the U.S. visa policy for educated people to enter the country. A further insult in the lay off is that those being laid off must train their replacements during the severance period. It seems that greed knows no patriotism...

This crap is so common now with all the Corporate friendly policies being passed... it's not even worth commenting on... Unless the American voters wake up and votes for their own financial interests in 2016.. It will continue to happen and get even worse.

You would have to have Linc or Bernie get elected and that ain't happening, and Hillary ain't going to do it neither...

Well, good luck changing anything that the lobbyists don't want changed...

Actually the only way to fix it is to pass a Constitutional Amendment stating that Corporations are not people and money is not speech.... However, it would take a Two thirds majority in the House and the Senate before it can be sent to the States for ratification.. I just don't see that happening as politicians depend on the dark money to win elections and they care much more about their jobs than they care about the welfare of Americans.

Then there is this untried method

The second method prescribed is for a Constitutional Convention to be called by two-thirds of the legislatures of the States, and for that Convention to propose one or more amendments. These amendments are then sent to the states to be approved by three-fourths of the legislatures or conventions. This route has never been taken, and there is discussion in political science circles about just how such a convention would be convened, and what kind of changes it would bring about.

But I have heard that the fear is a Constitutional Convention would open up the entire Constitution for amendments and that could be a real disaster.

Sounds like the 1% wins again. I wonder how much more crap the working people of this nation will be willing to take before they group together and surround Washington with truckloads of Tar and Feathers.

Of course they win... While American Voters have been so worried about social issues and who is getting what for nothing, the 1% have completely rigged the game. They have been working for their best interests... while voters vote AGAINST theirs.

Reading the article about the event led me to ponder, as I read the explanations and justifications by Disney. I realized that I had some responsibility to their actions. When I was working, investing in my 401K & my Schwab account I wanted the companies I invested in to also show a profit enabling my stock prices to go up. If they were making money I held them at no fault using unethical, albeit legal methods to make a profit. I was secure for the most part in my employment position. I gave no thought to whom it would affect just as long as my holdings increased in value.

After 2009 the workforce was loaded with unemployed holding a BS or Masters in many fields. Most were in their late 40s and early 50s. They were the higher income and the push from the 80-90's for everyone to get a college education resulted in competition for the older workers. Companies that weren't hurting then had an unlimited resource to pick from. They could offer the openings at a lower wage and still get many qualified applicants applying. As time wore on the degreed applicant holding out for a like position they were laid off from were dropping off the unemployment rolls and the government modified the figures to show that things were looking up.

Envoking NAFTA companies could move many of the high tech jobs offshore and get qualified workers at less than half of what they had been paying. The Government in their haste to remedy the situation had created and passed laws that made it profitable to bring qualified workers here or retain them in their native country. We created a workforce bonanza for third world countries to keep their population employed paying taxes and churning the economy there. There is still a demand for quality products and always will be, you get what you pay for. The Walmarts, Targets and other large manufacturing entities were allowing circumvention of safety checks and dictating how much they will pay for a product, so corners have to be cut to meet those prices at the cost of safety and quality.

And all the while me and fellow Americans were closing our eyes to the effect it had on our economy. We wanted results however they achieved them. What I should have been doing was demanding honestly and ethical treatment from the companies I choose to invest in. Elect officials that were honest and had our interests foremost in the campaign promises rather than some of the ones I voted for then regreted the decision later.

We had exactly the same thing happen a couple years ago with the Royal Bank of Canada. Can you imagine how you'd feel being one of those employees training your cheaper replacement? Corporations sure have gotten control of governments haven't they?

I fully agree with this idea but it won't actually solve the problem The same trend happens over here. It's a global trend driven by powerful corporations.

I hate that. Is it both Disneys? I can't stand to call for computer help. All the computer companies use Yogi and they can't understand my drawl and of course I have trouble understanding them. Of course it is a BIG possibility that it is bc I have a learning disability when it comes to technicalities of computers.

I'm surprised Disney hasn't tried to claim they are a global or international company. I heard when they built Disney World in Florida a lot of laws were customized for them. So Disney doing what ever it wants isn't new.
