Distracted Driving While Eating

911.....James.....

Ever catch a couple in the act in a car, and what do you do?

Teens used to find a deserted road and "park" but I don't know if they do that anymore.

Yes, I did a few times. I would pull up behind the car and turn on the high beam light on the rooftop of my car that would brighten up the whole interior and wait just a few minutes before approaching the car. This gave them time to get themselves together. I wasn't so dumb that I didn't know what was going on, so I didn't see any reason to embarrass them. I would ask the driver what he was doing here and I would get the old grin and something like, "I thought I heard a strange noise coming from the engine" or something like that. I would ask the lady if she was OK and so long as I didn't see any suspicious bottles, or drugs lying about and didn't smell any of that whacky weed, I would tell them to move along. The only other issue was curfew. Some of the municipalities in the Commonwealth had a curfew throughout the school year.

An ex liked to drive while holding an open cup of hot coffee. Because it was an open container and it was hot, he was always more concerned about spilling it on himself than on his driving. He refused to use the cupholder, preferring to hold his security blanket coffee in his hand at all times.

After he scared me a couple of times, I refused to ride with him and his coffee. I thought he was dangerous.

The only thing I do is to sip on a coffee or a pop while at the red light.

In some of my years as a sales rep I drove around 18 counties in two states. I read maps, ate lunches, and fiddled with cassettes while on the road. Does anyone else remember back in the 60's driving around with a case of beer in the back seat? Or a cooler full of beer in the trunk?

I recall in the 70s having backseat with beer.

Driving is probably the Most Dangerous activity most people engage in. When a person gets behind the wheel, they Must devote their entire attention to the road ahead, and the traffic around them. At 60MPH, it only takes a momentary distraction to cause a severe injury or death. I, like others, have seen numerous examples of those eating, drinking, reading, texting, putting on makeup, etc, etc., while hurdling down the highway...and wonder how long it will be before they kill themselves, or someone else. Everytime we hit the road, I am grateful when we get back to the house with everything intact.
