Do ANY OF YOU LIVE WITH PAIN?

I don't mean stiffness or sore muscles. I mean the kind of pain that makes you wince and grind your teeth occasionally or continually.

Only everyday... :) I'm paying now for a full life. First, there was the burns over 60% of my body. then there was the friendly fire shrapnel that took a chunk of my leg just below the knee. Then came the motorcycle crash that broke my wrist and leg. and of course there was the crane accident that broke my upper and lower vertebrata. So, now I know at least 2 days in advance of a coming rain, my back aches constantly, and I hate pain pills. (they make me sluggish). the saddest part of all this, is the wife actually suffers more than I do. :(
I am determined however to not let any of this get me down. Although, that's sometimes a might hard to do.

I was about to post how my knees ache and burn and because of it I don't sleep well. Than I read squatting dogs post. Compared to his problems and many others who suffer with chronic pain I have absolutely nothing to complain about. I can't imagine living in pain day after day. Your determination to carry on is inspiring. My best to you and your wife.

I applaud your strength, and that of your wife also. Impressive.

In the months before I had my hip replaced, I had moments where I just sat and cried from the pain. I could barely walk more than a few feet without having to stop. Now, except for the usual pains that come with aging, it is all manageable.

yes. My right hip just about kills me when I walk any distance. I take otc pain pills which help but dont get rid of all the pain.

I have pain lately; seems like it could be my hip. If I sleep on it the wrong way, wow does it hurt. When I stand up at first I am in pain, too.

Me, too, Marie -- that hip pain was absolutely debilitating. Thank God for my new hips! I do not know how long I could have gone on dealing with it every minute of every day. I really and truly sympathize with those who suffer intractable pain and it makes me very angry when I see such people demonized for using opioids for seeking relief, and people trying to make it nearly impossible for those people to get the help they need. People who are trying to do those things clearly have never dealt with the kind of pain that sucks out your very soul every hour of every day. Either that, or they have no compassion, whatsoever, for the suffering of their fellow human beings.

yes butterfly there is a lot of people that couldnt care less as well as thedoctors--you pay your co pay set there 2 hours and they take 5 minuttes with you. i am always early for my appointments but people just coming in get waited on first grrrrrr

For two years, I would every so often get hit with a pain in my stomach right side. Told the doctor about it several times and he would poke around at my tummy and couldn't give me any answers. It got to the point where I would have to fall into a chair when the pain hit as it doubled me over. (BTW, I have a very high pain threshold, so the tummy pain had me worried.)

I finally started checking everything I ate that may have caused the painful attacks. Went online and researched the items.

Then, when I read an article about the sugar substitute, Sweet and Low, I knew that HAD to be the cause. I had been using S&L for at least 10 years and I was poisoning myself. I tossed all the S&L packets in the trash and started using just a little brown sugar in my coffee and lemonade. I stopped drinking flavored bottled water and I also omitted any/all brands of sugar substitutes, no matter what the claims were about non fattening and being better for me than pure sugar/blah blah blah..

It took months but finally all pain was gone! I now read all labels and if there is any sweetner besides real, pure sugar, I avoid the product!

BTW, I tried to explain all that to my long time doctor (of 42 years, who really needs to retire) but he didn't pay any attention to me and acted like there hadn't been a problem.

Now, the only on-going pain is in my right hand.. probably arthritis, but when I can't squeeze the water out of a wash cloth, at least I still have my left hand!

At my age (79 in a month), I feel extremely fortunate that I am so physically healthy. My mind is somewhat forgetful, but as long as I can still "find my way back home", all is well. ;-)

Good for you. I know several people who use these artificial sweeteners, and drink lots of "diet" soda, and virtually all of them are gaining weight, and having health problems. Sugar, in moderation, is far better for a person, than any of these artificial products that the food and drink industries are trying to convince people to use. The worst of the bunch are any substitutes or beverages which contain Aspartame.

Actually sugar is bad period. But it is better to have a tiny bit of a natural sweetener, if you must, than an artificial one.

Don, That's that's the one: Aspartame. I couldn't remember the name!
My sister has stomach pain and she will not give up Sweet and Low.

Chic, I don't "do" a lot of sugar now, but I still use a half teaspoon of brown sugar in my two cups of coffee a day.I figure cutting back a little is better than not cutting back at all. I lost 40 pounds in 6 months last year without trying to diet, and the weight is staying off. I gave up on jams and jellys and use honey with peanut butter. I'm also lactose intolerant now, so noooo more ice cream.. (that was a big one to give up.)

I am currently experiencing strong pain in my shoulders from advanced osteoarthritis.

I'm on Panadol Osteo and from today I am on 15 microgram per hour buprenorphine patches to enable me to function. Today I saw my GP to arrange a consultation with a surgeon for a complete shoulder reconstruction and it cannot come too soon.

I have had in the past two years a hip replacement followed a year later by a full knee replacement. Both operations were completely successful and I have my legs back again but my arms and hands are now very restrained due to both shoulders. I am encouraged by the smooth healing I have had so far to front up again to the operating table.

Before I can see the surgeon I need to have a battery of blood tests, a couple of vaccinations (flu and shingles) and a check up with my cardiologist to make sure that I am fit for an operation.

I expect to be in hospital by the end of this month.

So sorry to read of all your pain Warrigal. I hope the doctors can do something soon to help you..
:fingerscrossed:

I'm lucky because I can afford private health cover. This means I won't have to wait too long for surgery.
My out of pocket expenses will not be too bad either.

Good thoughts your way. :)
