What is cream of wheat
It is a hot cereal that resembles grits
Mom always made it for us and we'd sprinkle a little granulated white sugar over it and add milk!

Yup

When i was down south (Texas), I ordered eggs and (for the first time) grits
Waitress brought me cream of wheat
We had a discussion
'Tha's grits
Wha n hell is careem uf whaheet?'

'......an, no you don't git no milk an sugar......yankee'

As a kid, didn't like cream of wheat 😝
I've never been a breakfast person, having coffee only for years.
Now, I have to start taking meds early - with food.

I'm all over the place with breakfast. Sometimes a big salad, sometimes soup with veggies, sometimes a tofu scramble, sometimes a stir fry, sometimes leftovers. Anything I'd eat any other time of the day is also fair game for breakfast. This morning I broke out the wok and sauteed some onion, bok choy, cabbage, napa cabbage, snow peas, tofo and vegetable fried rice. Really delish!

I make oatmeal once a week or so. Once the water boils it literally takes 5 minutes to cook old-fashioned oats. While it's cooking I cut up whatever fruit I have on hand. Put it in a bowl, pour the hot oatmeal over it, stir in a little jam to sweeten, and top with a healthy shake of cinnamon. Yum!

YUMMY! The breakfast stir-fry sounds delish, Star!

I change it up
I've loved Cream of Wheat since I was a little kid, have it on cold, blustry winter morning sometimes with a little dash of Vermont Maple Syrup, yummy!
other things I have for breakfast
English Muffin either with low cal butter, peanut butter or Nutella, small glass of either OJ or 2 % milk
bowl of multi-grain Cheerios with 2 % milk
small cinammon muffins with glass of OJ

I change things up, even whether I bother to eat breakfast.
Eggs on toast, love it. Coffee fresh brewed and strong.
Oatmeal, add some raisins sometimes. Ditto on the coffee.
Also depending on how soon I have to make a trip into town, could be anything in the kitchen.
Tried cream of wheat once, first spoon barely went down and stomach warned me off. Drank some coffee tried again that was it. Never again.(n):devilish::devilish:

We were never into eating breakfast, but we will have one of these little Aussie Bites with our morning coffee, we buy ours from Costco. Sometimes we'll have Lox (smoked salmon) with Philadelphia cream cheese and thin sliced onion for supper, and we'll have two halves left over. Then we'll have one of those the next morning.

Our first meal of the day is usually 2-3 hours after we get up and we change the menu every day. Been trying to shift more of our caloric intake to the earlier part of the day to avoid those horrid 1000 calorie evening meals so breakfasts are now typically in the 500-700 calorie range.

I have to thank hollydolly for pointing me to pinhead oats (called "steel cut" oats in the US) - I've never cared for "rolled oats". A favorite breakfast is a serving of steel cut oatmeal thoroughly mixed with one tablespoon of chunky style natural peanut butter and a half tablespoon of maple syrup, then topped with fresh fruit. This is accompanied by a 5.3 oz cup of skyr yogurt and a cup of coffee. It totals around 500 calories, about half from carbs, less than 30% from fats, and over 20 grams of protein. Good stuff!

I love steel cut oats as well but they take too long to cook for me. I also have shifted to eating the majority of my calories before noon, and avoid anything heavy at night. I am not supposed to eat after 3 in the afternoon, according to doc, but I have been unable to stick to that.

Prednisone makes you so hungry.

I agree. I was on Prednisone all last year..OMG I turned into an eating machine, and irritable one at that (another side effect of the meds)... .. I still have that weight to lose... :(

As for breakfast...I don't eat that, but about 2 hours after I get up I have 'brunch' and it can be anything at all... from Oatmeal once a week with chopped dates or chopped dried Prunes and skimmed milk... to bacon, egg, potato waffle ( i love that the best but try not to have it more than once a week).. to Cinnamon & raisin bread/ toast... to egg on toast, french Toast... ..or bacon sandwich... or mini choc chip weetabix with skimmed milk... ..or croissants and tea..( always hot weak tea with everything).... to hot Blini's with smoked trout and taramasalata ... or..just plain wholemeal toast and orange marmalade

This morning I sliced 4 mushrooms and 'fried'' them in plain boiling water.. ( it keeps the fat level down and they taste just as delicious)... and had them on hot buttered white bread crostini

I had that once, Treacle... *ugh*... I didn't like it at all...
it taste of absolutely nothing...
Well, like oatmeal you can add stuff, but it’s not for everyone. I make it with milk, taste better than using water, and add three non sugars for sweetness. One box has about 24 single servings and cost around 5 dollars or so-a good nutrition for your money.

Oatmeal - Half old fashioned, half steel-cut. I never use quick all nutrients have been removed. Night before pour 1 Cup+ boiling water to mix in a wide mouth thermos. Let soak overnight, comes out perfect. 1 tsp cinnamon, whole milk for texture, 1 Tbsp cashew butter. Heated in microwave 2 minutes. Small banana on side.
