What is cream of wheat
It is a hot cereal that resembles grits
Mom always made it for us and we'd sprinkle a little granulated white sugar over it and add milk!
My very favourite hot cereal was Red River or Sunny Boy! Yum-yum!As a kid, didn't like cream of wheat
I've never been a breakfast person, having coffee only for years.
Now, I have to start taking meds early - with food.
YUMMY! The breakfast stir-fry sounds delish, Star!I'm all over the place with breakfast. Sometimes a big salad, sometimes soup with veggies, sometimes a tofu scramble, sometimes a stir fry, sometimes leftovers. Anything I'd eat any other time of the day is also fair game for breakfast. This morning I broke out the wok and sauteed some onion, bok choy, cabbage, napa cabbage, snow peas, tofo and vegetable fried rice. Really delish!
I make oatmeal once a week or so. Once the water boils it literally takes 5 minutes to cook old-fashioned oats. While it's cooking I cut up whatever fruit I have on hand. Put it in a bowl, pour the hot oatmeal over it, stir in a little jam to sweeten, and top with a healthy shake of cinnamon. Yum!
I love steel cut oats as well but they take too long to cook for me. I also have shifted to eating the majority of my calories before noon, and avoid anything heavy at night. I am not supposed to eat after 3 in the afternoon, according to doc, but I have been unable to stick to that. Our first meal of the day is usually 2-3 hours after we get up and we change the menu every day. Been trying to shift more of our caloric intake to the earlier part of the day to avoid those horrid 1000 calorie evening meals so breakfasts are now typically in the 500-700 calorie range.
I have to thank hollydolly for pointing me to pinhead oats (called "steel cut" oats in the US) - I've never cared for "rolled oats". A favorite breakfast is a serving of steel cut oatmeal thoroughly mixed with one tablespoon of chunky style natural peanut butter and a half tablespoon of maple syrup, then topped with fresh fruit. This is accompanied by a 5.3 oz cup of skyr yogurt and a cup of coffee. It totals around 500 calories, about half from carbs, less than 30% from fats, and over 20 grams of protein. Good stuff!
It does look the same and I looked at the ingredients so cream of wheat is exactly what it says-wheat.Thanks Aunt Marg. Looks a bit like our porridge oats .![]()
I agree. I was on Prednisone all last year..OMG I turned into an eating machine, and irritable one at that (another side effect of the meds)... .. I still have that weight to lose...I love steel cut oats as well but they take too long to cook for me. Prednisone makes you so hungry.
Just put in Cream of Wheat and found you can buy it over here on ebay or Amazon. Had never heard of it before. Learned something new - yipeeIt does look the same and I looked at the ingredients so cream of wheat is exactly what it says-wheat.![]()
I had that once, Treacle... *ugh*... I didn't like it at all...Just put in Cream of Wheat and found you can buy it over here on ebay or Amazon. Had never heard of it before. Learned something new - yipee![]()
Well, like oatmeal you can add stuff, but it’s not for everyone. I make it with milk, taste better than using water, and add three non sugars for sweetness. One box has about 24 single servings and cost around 5 dollars or so-a good nutrition for your money.I had that once, Treacle... *ugh*... I didn't like it at all...
it taste of absolutely nothing...![]()
