Do Senior Forums & Organizations Make You Feel Old?

I am cognizant of my age, but when I am in the company of seniors both here and in person, I start thinking I'm old. I don't feel old so what causes this incongruity?

I don't feel old being here. It's just nice to have a few people my own age to converse with. I don't feel old till I start talking to this younger generation. Some of the stuff they talk about makes me just walk away. Maybe it's because you're young at heart. Just because our bodies have aged doesn't always mean our brains are working in old fart mode. ;)

Yes I do!!! 😙🤣 Actually talking to younger people makes me feel younger. Seriously, it does. Must be a psychological thing. But I notice I walk with more spring in my step around the young ones than I do around us older folk who are almost always in pain somewhere and spending a lot of time and energy talking about it.

I understand that sentiment completely. :) .. I know that kids can snap you out of a funk when needed.

I definitely don't feel old here...there are so many interesting people willing to discuss their viewpoints, I find it stimulating. I never think of the people here as old. As for aches and pains, I have a 25 year old neighbor who talks of nothing else, So I don' think age is a factor there.

When I really feel old is when I'm trying to talk to young people who have no clue what I'm talking about. I'm comfortable here.

I'm with Wren, on this.

When I compare myself to others my age, there is no comparison. I may have been born into a family that was poor and didn't have much, but I sure made up for it in spades as far as being gifted with good genetics and youthfulness.

It's a privilege growing old. So many aren't afforded the opportunity, and at 57, I feel nowhere near old, but being able to age in style, there is no better feeling.

Inside, I'm still a kid, outside, I'm in my 40's, and when I'm around others who are a mix of age, I feel younger than all.

OMG Marg...you're still a "baby". I could be your mother! 😮 I didn't realize you were that young.

The only senior citizens I see, are those I hear and see on T V--I'm home bound with full body fairly severe Essential Tremor shaking head to toe--so I have no contact with persons in person who are, say, around my age (84), -- how they act or look or feel? All I know is that in appearance in my face and body I've grown sooo different and yucky. :) I think it's because of listening only/mostly to my children's younger thinking and interests that I don't have "old" person thinking. Even physical problems I've been temporarily struck with I've not seen as due to my age. During a check up I recently had, a doctor told me that "because of my age" I had to be extra careful to avoid catching covid. And I thought facetiously, Whatd'ya mean people my age?! Are you saying I'm OLD! lol

I feel old when I get down on the floor for whatever reason, and find that it's not so easy to get back up again. Somehow, I never expect that to happen, and it always comes as somewhat of a surprise.

Mentally, I don't feel old at all.
I saw that difficulty as not age, but not having exercised my legs enough for a long time. Thanks alot for letting me know I was in ageing denial. lol
