Do we need HATE?

Hack no, I don't hate the Russians. Actually, I have traveled there 4 times and the last time I took the Trans-Siberian Railroad all the way to Vladivostok. You don't know Russians until you sit down with them and drink pure shots of vodka and chase those vodka shots with pickles and bread. They are actually lovely people to my way of thinking.

Now, when it comes to politics and Comrade Putin; that is a different kettle of fish. He reminds so much of Herr Adolf Hitler. Both of those guys just lived to get more and more territory. Herr Hitler wanted to join all Germanic people with the "Fatherland." Comrade Putin wants to go back to what was the "good ole' days" of the Soviet Union. This means taking back Ukraine, the Baltics and maybe a good chunk of Poland. Hmmmmmmm! There seems no end to the greed of a mad power hungry dictator. It's been like that since Jules Caesar crossed the Rubicon way, way back in history and the Mongols left Mongolia to capture all the land right up to the gates of Krakow, Poland.

I agree hate is not necessary. In fact hate is a detriment when combating evil...The Russians have indeed endured much and so have the former Soviet Union Republics. Now Ukraine is faced with a threat to be taken over once more. Hopefully more of the Russian people will join in the protests in spite of the personal danger to themselves.
 
I don't know if hate has that much to do with what Putin and other dictators do or have done. I do think that power is the most addictive thing that humans have ever known and as happens when anyone gets in the way of an addict and their drug of choice, look out. And I also think that a lot of dictators are sociopaths who don't really feel hate or love; they say sociopaths just about have only two emotions: anger if they don't get their way and satisfaction when they do.

I don't think Putin is motivated by hate. He fears the West, and doesn't want us encroaching on what he regards as his territory. Why he fears us, I have no idea, as we are too wrapped up in our own affairs to be bothered about Russia.

Many Christians use the cliché “God loves the sinner but not the sin.” This saying is not found in the Bible.

However, we hate sin by recognizing it for what it is, refusing to take part in it, and condemning it as contrary to God’s nature. Sin is to be hated, not excused or taken lightly. Sinners, and by that I mean those living in constant sin, are to be loved by showing them respect, praying for them, and sharing God's love.

It is a true act of love to treat someone with respect and kindness even though you do not approve of his or her lifestyle or sinful choices.
It is not loving to ignore a person remaining stuck in sin.

We tend to want to punish whom we hate. God is loaded with some BIG punishments for us if we don't follow Christ. HELL! That is bigger than a nuclear holocaust. Whatever feelings we have when we are frightened and are forced/chose to fight that which scares us ( squishing tiny harmless spiders, throwing things at others, etc....what do we call that.? That seems like hatred in some form. I think it is a natural reaction to feeling trapped by something we are afraid of.

Don't get me wrong. I'm not denying that man is obviously capable of "punishing man out of hatred"...and capable of "killing when scared" (which in most cases is justified in the courts). In fact, man's hatred is more prevalent and widespread now than ever before as I'm sure we all agree. It's only growing now. Some of us hate others and act on it. Some of us don't hate. The scale continues to tip.

Here is my faith-based response: Many would say the mass movement of of hatred is because man has turned their backs on our Creator.
Sin is rampant and taking over. God's plan is to destroy the planet eventually and build a new kingdom here on earth that is perfect. We don't know exactly when but He has given us signs to watch for and tells us to be ready so we will be worthy to enter His new kingdom on earth. Many prophesies, such as Matthew chapter 24 as well as other chapters and scriptures are coming true. Some already happened. The ones that have happened are with 100% accuracy. Many have become believers after studying the accuracy of fulfilled prophecies.

Fear, while certain levels of it serve useful purposes, is behind a lot of other emotions like jealousy. Often involves some kind of loss---of power, possessions, status, one's self-image. What is greed except fear of not ever having 'enough' ? (Or maybe having no concept of 'enough'?)

Contrary to popular opinion the opposite of love is not hate, it is apathy. Both love and hate are 'passionate' feelings--feeling totally indifferent to someone or something is oppositional to both. This is why the most dangerous enemy is one you've had close ties with---because love often transitions to hate before they can 'let go'. Some exes would rather the other 'hate' them than stop feeling anything about them. And someone has made that analogy about Russia/Ukraine, casting Russia as an abusive ex that can't stand the idea of Ukraine doing well on it's own. IMO that's apt. There are other factors, but having been stalked by an ex i can see how it fits.

I'm just a simple bloke, I'm not an expert in hate, love or other human emotions, but I'd bet my pension there wouldn't be any problem finding hundreds of Ukrainians, who would not hesitate pyssing on Putin or putting a bullet in his head.

i made a post on FB about this. . i did an OP saying the best way to honor the Ukrainians would be to emulate them, and in a comment i gave details as to how we could do that:

Praise, prayers and contributions to charities that are actually helping the people are all good. But it occurred to me that we are so taken with the Ukranians because we rarely see such displays of good character on a national level. Individuals and small groups, yes--but rarely whole countries. In particular we need to emulate them defending their boundaries without demonizing the Russian soldiers or people. They have displayed human decency in their treatment of Russian soldiers who surrendered or were captured.

Granted letting the POWs call home is also brilliant strategy because it helps confirm what many Russians may have suspected: That their government had lied to them. But i think that's just a bonus for them to the knowledge they are behaving well in adverse circumstances.

How can we emulate them?

1) In our personal lives if we can't be kind at least be civil. Keeping in mind that sometimes a difficult truth is kinder than a comforting lie.

2) Give more thought to what kind of country and world you want for future generations. Work towards that by finding, electing and/or being the kind of leader that will work towards that.

3) Remember that none of us are perfect. And we're not likely to find political hopefuls who hold identical (to our) opinions and goals. So focus on the most crucial issues. For me it is socio economic justice, fairness to ALL! Equality in all applications and enforcements of laws. You decide what it is for you.

The USA has oligarchs as well as Russia and we have our fascists. If you value our constitution and Bill of Rights you'll work to see they are applied to benefit all of us, not just privileged segments of society.

i suspect the same could be said of many people around the globe, not just the Ukranians, tho they are his current target. And it is one thing to despise the leader who instigates wars and quite another to demonize all the citizens of that country and the soldiers as being just as 'evil' as that leader.

We are not exactly innocent bystanders when it comes to nuclear testing. Up until 1992, American physicists and engineers had conducted more than 1,000 tests. They blew up nuclear weapons in the ocean. They blew them up on land. They blew them up in space. They dropped them from planes. They launched them on rockets. They buried them underground. A small army of US weapons scientists blew up a nuclear weapon every chance they got, and at the height of the nation’s testing program they were averaging one detonation per week.

"Hate" is just a word to express extreme dislike towards a person or object. It is perfectly reasonable that while we can love, there should be an opposite emotion. We can't go round liking everything. There are bound to be things, people, places etc.. that we don't like, or even hate.

If an imaginary 'God' does away with hate, then they should ban all emotions - otherwise they have simply taken away the ability to think for ourselves.

I hate (until picking up my sleeping bag moving away) trying to sleep outdoors when camping while someone nearby is making horrible sounds snoring. Not the person just the act.

I hate when walking about carefree at a grassy park after apparently stepping on something oddly soft, then looking down to see a shoe glued to a brown mass of dog product. Not the dog just the production.

I hate (for a few moments) when in a long left turn lane of cars at a busy intersection with a long traffic light cycle when a car in the chain takes so long before moving that the light switches leaving every car except that one car waiting for another cycle. Not the car just that thing that was looking down at something in their hands.

You hate but I ♥️ your comment. Especially about the dog crap. The turn lane mention too, though I’m happy to not be dealing with that these days. Stepping on bubblegum, on a hot day, in a shopping center parking lot isn’t a fun thing either. That feeling of resistance when one goes to take a step afterward … Lots of things to hate in life but overall, they’re all bearable, if unpleasant, so far.
