Do women become like their mothers?

Well, I can look at Mom and older sister. She was more a friend, but her husband obviously stayed around (before divorce) so the kids had two parents.

So I guess mom withdrew into bitterness.

It has been interesting to me how relatives act and have genetic and psychological similarities with each other. Moreso how children who have not grown up with their biological parents and relatives have the same psychological traits as well as biological problems as their biological parents.

I have seen people who have adopted children with no knowledge of the child's parents biological and psychological conditions. Then find out over time how the child has physical and psychological problems that the adopted parent has difficulty coping with because the lifestyle is so different between the adopted child and parent.

My daughter inherited my mother's traits. My daughter was under the care of mental health professionals for 10 years and didn't make it past age 34. As a child, young person and adult I never considered my mother to be mentally ill, but knew there was something very wrong with her. After watching my daughter go downhill, I know now Mom could have used some kind of medication because she wasn't operating in reality much of the time.

I wish I'd become like my mother was, she was very competent and energetic, enjoyed projects and keeping up with everything that needed it. I'm more like my dad was, drawn to the comfy chair in front of the TV.

I certainly hope not....I have made a concerted effort NOT to be like her. I have always been more like my father, and my own daughter is very like HER father. Oddly enough, we are both only daughters, with three brothers.

Same here. I've been more my father's daughter all my life. .. in beliefs/looks and identity.
My youngest daughter is very much like HER father too, in everything she does.

When I was young and single my buddies and I always joked about the mothers of girls we dated. We figured eventually they would turn into their mom so we used that as a deciding factor if a girl was long term or short term. I'm not making this up!
I think many people might be surpried by how much a this type of discusion in younger men goes on.

Some family friends for years after my mom died in 2003 kept telling me I look like her. I didn't think so but as I grow older I do see the resemblence with the gray hair
My mom use to write in her yearly journal all the top stories that happen every yr,/family members/ friends who had died what her kids{my brother& sister&I} had done that yr. She kept track of books she read,in margin would write a short critique if she liked or didn't like it
I have kept that tradition going I started my yearly journal in 1988, I also write in the famous/well known people that have died every year. The things I did at church with church friends, what my siblings did I started my book journal in 2000,every book I've read each yr is in it,also write a short critique if I like the book or not
