Do you absolutely have to have dessert after dinner?

Had a Walmart delivery today and I got the best strawberries. After cleaning them I halved them and sprinkled with a tiny bit of sugar and let them make their juice. This will be my dessert each day until the pound is gone. Wish I had gotten more than one pound though. I have Walmart plus so I might have to order more in a few days.

I often have a small serve of plain yoghurt with my preserved fruit after our evening meal
We eat about 5 ish so I’d be staving by the time I get up at 7.30 ish if I didn’t eat a bit more protein in-the evening

No. Sugar is so bad for you. I have a sweet snack sometimes, usually a muffin hours after a main meal. I don't miss dessert after a meal. Sometimes my company does when I have people over, so I have something prepared for them but don't indulge myself.
I'm glad you can enjoy a muffin without worry. 😊 But if you're interested in a bit of information.....I had to learn about carbohydrate/sugar after diabetes & I learned many unpleasant surprises. When you eat anything with carbs, your system converts 100% of the carbs to sugar (glucose) because glucose is our main source of energy.
A typical blueberry muffin has 61 gms of carbohydrate (sugar). That's 21 gms more sugar than a can of soda, which has 40 gms. ;)

Growing up, we always had homemade pies, cakes and cookies in the house and we ate them at about 8:30 in the evening, all being too full right after dinner. After I got married we went to visit my husband's parents and I was shocked when we headed off to bed with no snack offered. I still love to bake and I still have some sort of dessert at about 8 o'clock unless I'm trying to diet in which case I have a bowl of Cheerios at that time. Must have something.

I usually don't make dessert after dinner because my hubby doesn't miss it and is happy with his 8pm snack which is usually ice cream..
I have to have something sweet after dinner and it doesn't matter how full I am. I can't even get through doing the dishes without popping a piece of candy or a gluten free cookie and in a pinch a small spoonful of peanut butter and some jelly will do the trick.
When company comes or my kids I always have dessert.
Some people want dessert but want to wait a half hour or so. Not me, I'm ready to dive in at a moments notice.
Do you have that overpowering urge for something sweet after dinner?
I do crave something sweet after dinner. Sometimes fruit, but that doesn't always quench the craving. I coolie will do!
I crave chocolate!!!

My wife got me in the habit of having a dessert of some sort. Now our big meal is at lunch and we most often have "nice cream" which is a blitzed frozen banana. The flavor varies with what fruit we add to the banana. Tastes great and light on the palate. We've come up with some really delicious combinations and both of us have come to prefer it to real ice cream.

We never had dessert after dinner when I was growing up, so I never developed the habit of expecting or wanting it. For me, dessert has always been reserved for special occasions like birthdays, Christmas, etc., and very rarely otherwise.
