Do you accept or resist old age?

I accept.
There is a real liberation in doing so, accepting that time has taken it's toll on the body and things are deteriorating physically.

I believe there is a season for all things, for each phase of life. For me I want a quiet life now and to do the things I need for myself. It's not a giving up but acceptance and being realistic. Embracing the next natural path.

I see those who resist old age and time. Some are blessed with exceptional good health and genes. Yet there can be a ridiculous aspect to carrying on behaving as if young. Today's world does focus upon and celebrate youth to an excess - why? Old age has great value to impart, experience to be shared and listened to.

Surely there comes a time for wisdom and preparation for one's eternity. To reflect on what is next in our existence?
Even though I am considered "old", I still hold onto and enjoy a part-time job. I still start each and every day finding new things to learn and experience. I like getting out every day and interacting with others, old and young. It is still exciting. Is that being "ridiculous"? I have no intention of giving up and leading a quiet life as you put it. Yes, I accept that I'm old but life is still meant to be lived.. Put away that rocking chair.

There you have it. Same here.
Same here. That's the reason living in an independent senior apartment completely turned me off. Just looking at the photos of residents showed them just sitting in communal dining room and that appeared to be the high point of their day. I intend to live my life whatever years I have left to me learning new things and having interesting conversation with vibrant people.

No hair, don't care. The sky is blue, the birds sing and I can hear and see. Every day is a good day. I move slower, I watch where I am walking and I take naps. Never the less I fix minor issues in the house, repair things where I am able, walk our dog and even have another job as an engineer. Lords been good to me. 76 by the way. It could all end tomorrow with a fall in the shower but it is what it is today.

I went to a fair recently. I was about to pay the adult admission price when the clerk asked me if I was a senior. I told her that it was hard to say no, since I'm 78. I got the senior discount.
I don't like the "you're as young as you feel" nonsense. Nobody dreams of getting old, and trying to avoid the reality of life about getting old is a delusion. You started to get "old" the moment you were born. Aging is a normal biological process, and to deny that it's happening is ridiculous.

😍.. plus, old age does have its charms and advantages. I'm planning on making ninety. I don't expect to succeed but it's fun trying.

Mostly I resist and I'll let everyone know how that plan works out going forward if you're interested. I have begun to accept that I need to be gentler and more loving to my body. But in the hope of getting more out of it. Taking care of it now is like an investment in my future. You know what I mean.

I don't think I fight it, age is what it is. I do a lot of the same thing as before. Firewood, for me is year round, it keeps me going, which is letting me eat what I like only a bit less. People ask me why I don't hire people to do that, I answer with a question "What do I do then?" Over 70 now, yes I have slowed down , don't watch tv. Spend some time on the internet, interesting sometimes. Life is still fun and interesting to me, guess I will hang around for a bit.🪓 🛶 That red thing supposed to be a kayak lol

I've posted this before but all old folks should purchase the PC game, "Civilization VI." I LITERALLY LIVE inside that game. I direct a nation from the stone age to the atomic age. I play at the lowest artificial intelligence level and still lose a lot. However, I direct battles of all kinds, engage in wars of conquest and really feel like Julius Caesar!

I may be 89 but I feel like the greatest general in history!

It's getting harder to look good naked....<sigh>
Couldn't agree more. Having just stepped out of a relaxing hot bath, I caught my reflection in the bathroom mirror. I don't about you, but my body definitely needs ironing.
There again when my surgeon recommended cycling to rotate my leg following a hip replacement he probably had in mind that of an old man in cycle wear:

Can you see me in a hard hat and cycle shorts?
Come on, old age can have some advantages.
No youngster would have the balls to wear 1930's
baggy trousers and all that goes with it.

Kudos to your smart and dapper attire, even down to the summer shoes!
It's a shame that no one dresses well these days. Sadly, dressing nicely has mirrored the steady decay of society.

I've seen people at weddings and funerals dressed like they just took a break from mowing the lawn!.. When I grew up in the '40s and '50s, men were still wearing jackets and ties to pro baseball games! When people went to town, they dressed up a little. I'm old school. I still wear a decent shirt and slacks when I go to WalMart...:) At a nice restaurant, it still causes me to internally raise an eyebrow when I see someone sitting at a table with a wrinkled T-shirt and flip-flops.

If the concept of respect ever comes back, people will start dressing better.

My Geriatrician told me that, if I develop heart disease or cancer, he will NOT treat me. He said he will just keep me comfortable until I die. That's fine with me. I have a Living Will which requests that kind of end of life non-treatment. I spend most of my waking hours in the PC game, Civilization VI. That is where I am always a young general trying to conquer the world.

We live in a different world. Our parents had the same comments about the changes in their world when we were growing up. When you think about it you have to admit that we were pretty weird. So nothing has changed about life going on.
We have changed however.
We are our parents now! Think about that.

I also play chess online and it does take the mind off of age-related worries.
Radrook (1901)

We must all learn to accept everything that happens to us such as pain, impairment and, yes, even death. I'm 89 and was already in Vitas Hospice several years ago. Very few leave Vitas Hospice ALIVE! I left after only 3 weeks. My geriatrician has been telling my I have only 1 year to live. He's been telling me that for 5 years already. He told me he will NOT treat me for cancer or heart disease if I contract either of those terminal illnesses.

I'm 89, my neck is bent from arthritis and walking is difficult. I try to walk 1 twenty minute walk every day to avoid a wheel chair. Luckily, my wife is still alive and she has become my care giver.

To keep my mind active I play chess at Chess.com and Civilization VI at Steam.com every day. I lose myself in the games so do not dwell on my age.

I too play chess online. LOL. Yes, it does keep the mind busy. After loosing 50 games, I am finally winning some. LOL. o_O😀

I think the wisdom/experience that comes with age is helpful but when it comes to your body as soon as you start allowing yourself to age you go into a freefall. That is what I resist.

I've decided resistance is futile though maintaining fitness, good diet and sleep makes as much sense now as it ever did. Being a guy I mostly pay no attention to mirrors.

Over 70, I refuse to "grow up " why should I? I earned the choices I make today. Love waking up, the perfect morning today, sun coming through the trees, the lake is like a mirror reflecting the trees on the surface. Here come Mom with the two kids that are looking for breakfast, I am speaking of Loons. The ones with wings, not the others.
Hot coffee this morning is great, 10 c here this morning so it will be a while before the bugs get out. Time to head out for my walk with the dogs. :coffee: :coffee:(y)(y)

I don't think about it, really. Sometimes I'm reminded by this or that, but overall age isn't too important to me.

Part of my accrued wisdom is that most of what goes on isn't really important, and is certainly not worth getting worked up about. Younger folk than me, people who have a good few years left, have the right to create the world they want to live in. I don't have to like it.

My personal opinion as a Christian is that aging leading to death is the result of human imperfection inflicted by the fall described in Genesis.

Romans 5:12
New International Version
Therefore, just as sin entered the world through one man, and death through sin, and in this way death came to all people, because all sinned—

In short, I accept it as a condition, but not as a normal one.

1 Corinthians 15:26
New International Version
The last enemy to be destroyed is death.

If you play chess at Chess.com, they always match you with another player with a rating only 25 points or less separating you from your opponent. Thus, no matter what your rating, you always win approximately 50% of the games you play there.

I enjoy my life, and I know it will come to an end at some point but I don't dwell on it.

When someone dies who I'm fond of, or whom I'm a fan of in the public eye, it does bring me down to earth a bit and I think hmmmmmm....... yes kiddo, even you will have to go through that exit door.
