Do You Buy Things Only To Never Use Them?

I bought an indoor smoker a year or so ago and it sits in my cabinet untouched. Same with a carpet an expensive shampooer in my closet. I bought a popcorn popper and did not like it so it sits gathering dust. I need to make a run to the Salvation Army.
 

Nope but I've several items that I acquired after buying into the newer, better, you gotta have it hype, used once and never again. Turned out the old way was better. For example, things for vegetable prep. I usually return to a good, sharp paring knife.
 

After we moved back to Florida, I couldn't find my jig saw. I bought a new one, and later found the old one. I really don't need 2 in a 2br condo.
 
Yes, guilty here! I think I have about 4-5 things that I bought and then never used, still in their boxes. I plan on using them eventually, though, so am not sorry I bought them, they won't go to waste.
 
I have never done that. I agonize over every purchase I make. and sometimes I realize I really don't need the item at all. This is happening more and more the older I get. Once in a great while I'll buy something that doesn't meet with my expectations and if that's the case I bring it back to the store immediately.

A few years ago they were advertising a Ronco rotisserie oven. I had a rotisserie when we first got married and loved it. It wasn't self cleaning so I got rid of it.

I bought the Ronco and they said it would do two chickens at once. I put two on and the sides that touched each other was still raw. It went back to the store the next day. Grease and all.
 
DH has never seen a piece of glassware or a kitchen gadget he didn't love. Sometimes we use them, sometimes we use them once or twice. I have a special basket tucked away in an unused bedroom full of kitchen gadgets we almost never use. I call it the Island of Misfit Toys, ala the Rudolph Christmas cartoon. LOL! But I go searching once or twice a year for that weird item to do one weird thing, so there ya go. Talk about first world problems!
 
In the 1970s, I came out of the US Navy, and setting up my first apartment. I bought an electric hand mixer. It was supposed to be one of those necessities. I have never used it. But that might have been a good investment-it's half way being considered an "antique".
 
I just remembered this. I think almost every guy had this, at one time or another. I bought a set of weights. I had them under my bed for years. The only time they were lifted was to move them to a new apartment. Got rid of then about ten years ago- after 40+ years of lugging thenm around. NOPE, Never used them. Never even took then out of the box.
 
Last Christmas (2018) I got one of those little label making machines, and had been wanting one. It is still in the original packaging :LOL:. Guess I didn't need it as badly as I thought I did? Don...
 
When I see something online that I think about buying, I put the link to that item into a "like" folder where I come back and look at it again to decide if I really want it. Some items have been in that folder for six months, and then I will come along and delete multiple items in one swift cleanup. If I really want it, I will go ahead and purchase it, but most things don't make the cut.

My Amazon Wish List has at least 3 pages of stuff that I am considering, and it also gets a serious cleanout on a regular basis.

This approach has enabled me to cut the amount of unnecessary stuff that I was buying 15 years ago.
 
Ive bought various gadgets over the years and some were used others gathered dust. One I bought I love is my Salter soup maker.

A George Foreman grill and hardly used it so gave it to my Son snd DIL. A sandwich maker I rarely use..too fiddly.
A breadmaker that I used until 5 years ago lost a kneading paddle and not bothered with it since snd it sits in situ and should buy a new paddle and use it. Procrastinating is one of my glitches and what I will do with gadgets ....when I get around to it. :rolleyes:;)

"Ronco" was synonymous with "trash".
 
I've got quite a few things that I would prefer Not to use.....small spare parts for my vehicles, mowers, etc. If something breaks down, and the part isn't very expensive, I have the habit of buying a spare....which in most cases I never need if I have it on hand. The way my life goes, if I prepare for the worst, it usually doesn't happen.....but every time I overlook something, that is what usually causes the next trouble. My workshop almost looks like a small hardware store.
 
Awhile back, I got into buying little kitchen gadgets from Wish. My wife told me to knock it off because she has so much stuff the kitchen drawers won’t close. I really must try that Apple corer one on these days. :ROFLMAO:
