Do you decorate for xmas?

My goodness, I'm an atheist and the holiday doesn't bother me as much as it bothers you! (Actually, it doesn't bother me at all.) Sorry you had a bad time of it. I'm not usually fond of "frilly crap" either but I think it's great that some people get enjoyment out of it; there's certainly worse things to enjoy. ;)

Happy Holidays to everyone regardless!
I am a Christian and make no bones about it. When I think of the traditional Christ child in the manger, He didn't have a bloody lump of lighted cheese to brighten His day or night. He had some straw and some sheep turds to contend with. Ergo, the holiday itself doesn't bother me at all. It's all the decoration crap that I find to be totally useless. I love the interaction with family, the food, even the arguments. But I can do without all the decoration crap which -- to me at least -- adds nothing to the holiday itself.

I still decorate but not as much as I used to. I set up some lovely ceramic trees and have a tabletop tree with lights and ornaments. I hang sparkly strings of beads around my lampshades and fill big glass vases with multicolored Christmas balls. For a festive look, I also hang a few decorations here and there. That's it!

First time in many many years, Lorie and I put up a tree, H*ll we had even gone out and bought a new tree... We stopped for many years cuz the cat would knock all the balls off, and scramble around the house knocking them everywhere, and when she got tired, she would climb up the tree (fake) and have a nap... So we gave up... and I was also told I am a humbug when it's Christmas time and Birthdays... So I am doing my best to be in a great mood this Christmas.. Really, I'm trying...

I am always amused when I see the Wise Men included in the Nativity. If the Gospel of Matthew is to be believed, when they arrived, the Holy Family were already living in a house, not still in the stable. Matthew 2: 10-11. Shepherds were there, though.
I thought they had fled to Egypt shortly after the birth of Jesus. There was obviously a large Jewish community in Egypt, so it would have been easy for them to fit in.
After the crucifixion, the relatives of Jesus were under threat and, again, they took refuge in Egypt.

I've lived alone for a number of years and waffle back and forth every year about decorating. Most years I do at least something like decorating my front bay window, the last few years I've also put up a tree but this year I'm leaning toward no tree. I think I'll just put up a string of lights and some garland and call it Christmas!

Just my wife and I now and we still decorate the inside of our home for Christmas. Tree, fireplace mantle, tables, and candles placed around the house. Very strong Christmas feeling is tradition in our home. We both were raised this way, and we continued it with our family.

Wife and I decorate the whole house for the Christmas holidays. Our daughter never comes for the holidays, she lives 1200 miles away. We have no grandchildren, so we make the best of it together, just the two of us. When one of is finally gone, I expect it will be a pretty lonely time for the one left behind. So we enjoy it while we can.

I see you live in the Villages, Tom; I bet they have some fun holiday get-togethers?

Last year was my first year without a live tree. I liked doing it for the cats. They would sleep under it. No more kitties. I now have a fake tree with multiple light settings. No need for the precious ornaments collected over many years. Remember this one was from David V and this one from Kathy and Paul. Nobody cares. It's like showing vacation pictures to strangers. So twinkling lights will do nicely.

I'm pretty minimalist myself. I have some stuff in the basement I don't bring out anymore, but I do holiday-appropriate solar light strings I put out on the hedge in front for each event season. Maybe I just like fiddling with them.

This time of year I put Christmas cards up on the fridge. I get a modest selection from kids, a few friends, and various business people who send them out. Real estate guy who's wife used to do daycare for the boys, stuff like that. I usually get one from Jimmy Carter's family. I got one from Ryan Reynolds this year.

But I can see where it's probably lost on DINKs and OINKs. The tempo of their lives is probably marked by their lavish vacations and expensive toys rather than holidays.

I passed past decorating with a ladder or on the roof a long time ago.
Hanging a Wreath, the Xmas tree of course. it's awesome. The rest is B.S.
This Xmas thing starts in mid October or earlier. total bogus.

Very minimally. About the same as what Pepper does. A sprig or two, Xmas cards I've received, and I light a menorah.

Haven't for a long time! My grandson is coming to visit for a few days, but it would be ridiculous to try to do that! We're having Couscous for Christmas, which he always loved! I'm atheist, but he isn't.
