Do you enjoy boating in small crafts?

I spent a lot of time in my Colorado inflatable fishing at a nearby lake, and tweaked it out a lot. I took an aluminum lawn chair frame, cut the legs off, and mounted it in the kayak, with a nice lawn chair cushion for comfort. Then I attached a clamp-on multi-position umbrella to the back of the lawn chair for shade.
On the back side of the lawn chair at tube height, I attached a 2x4 that stuck out one side to mount my small trolling motor on.
After a few adjustments, everything worked perfectly as I could sit up at tube level rather than down on the floor, the umbrella didn't get in the way of casting, and I could paddle when I wanted, or cruise with the trolling motor.

As a former "blue water" sailor, my preference is for big ocean crossing ships. preferably warships painted haze grey.

Small boats are for utility work or just messing around with. I did own two sea kayaks (one 17 ft the other 21 ft) for a couple of decades. Used them in Puget Sound and offshore Oregon and Washington.

When a preteen I was taken in a canoe that was so loaded down with a couple of heavy guys, the water was right up to the top edge of the
canoe and I was scared witless. To this day I won't go boating in anything smaller than a Criss Craft.

It's a weird one. I can swim, and even swam competitively as a kid. My wife loves the ocean.

Me? I think I might actually have grown AFRAID of it. Not knowing what's beneath my feet. Big ships/tankers are terrifying, and I've had nightmares where I'm swimming and one of those huge tankers goes passed me, just feet away.

Strange. But true.

Lots of friends had boats. The speed boats were mostly used to get to various beaches on the ocean across the bay.. The sail boats were used in the bay. In high school a friend and I would sign up for heavy weather crew at times when extra weight was needed for rough seas. One sailboat (I think it was a Snipe) that we crewed on actually won "Queen of the Bay" but we didn't contribute very much and were only needed a couple of days. We just remembered to duck when "going about".
