Do you ever get neighbour night window envy?

Yeh, do take care, Holly, make sure you have pepper spray, a five pound cosh, a cattle prod, knuckle dusters, a cricket bat and a machine gun......well, you ladies have tons of space in your handbags... ;)😊
Not in THIS area...

I don't envy others homes, I just admire.

Although one house in particular is open to criticism, junk all over, grass needs cutting badly all the time.

In rural North Florida and much of Louisiana people put old worn out appliances (and other junk) in their yards. Sometimes it can make for interesting yard art, but not often... We once stole a "Lawn of the Month" sign and put it into the yard of one of the worst.

Don't seem to see that in Utah, what we do see around here is lots of old abandoned agricultural equipment in yards. Can be interesting, the older stuff even a bit artistic.

I've literally just been for a walk..to try and cool down. It;s 1am and verrrry hot.. ..I went at midnight and was out for 30 minutes trusty torch in hand phone in pocket...
Most houses were in darkness, with all the windows open.. but there was a few with lights still on.. curtains open, tv's on..( I didn't know someone in my road has a huge cinema style TV, until tonight... )... anyway..why is it that everybody's houses.. livingrooms... and hallways look far nicer than mine looking at them with their lights or lamps on. ?..They all look lovely, and cosy.. .. and altho' I like my livingroom usually, it's not until I see other people's homes as I walk past that I think maybe mine seems a bit less glam or more dull..

Anyone else get this ?
Don't you have air conditioning?

HollyDolly in beach hurricane areas there is a different lifestyle, so how to explain that is too long of a story. Taking a walk sounds like a great idea. I was trying to finish getting physically well when I first joined the forum. So, thanks for the motivation to stop being lazy and start moving around again.
Patricia..I have a home at the beach in Southern Spain... my house had it's roof taken off in a hurricane about 12 years ago.. so I do know..:(

Well you might be like me. If I go to someone's home I collect ideas (in my head) of things I like that I could do in my own home. Pinterest is where I get most of my ideas because nobody has the same taste as me it seems. I do remember driving past homes that are lit up at night and thinking how happy and cozy their homes were. I have since learned that those homes may not be as happy and cozy as they look. As you know, I live in a small studio apartment and I always say that my apartment is the best one in the building. It is!

you can't go to bed when it's 96 deg in your room.. and you have no AC....believe me when I did manage to get to sleep around 3am.. it was the worst and hottest night's sleep ever..
Been there……the house on the farm was a hot house from hell……had ceiling fan, floor fans, just to make it almost livable.
Wasn’t a multiple story house, was a bungalow, usually, I slept downstairs with my guys.

I’ve had sort of the reverse happen.

I live in a very small subdivision, just 4 streets, and our neighbors are out walking all the time. We often wave or chat when Im walking our dogs around our yard (we have almost an acre and no fence, so I walk the dogs on leash for their potty breaks)

Our living room faces the street, large picture window. We took down the wall between living room and kitchen so the view into the house shows both living room and the kitchen beyond. I’ve had several neighbors comment on how lovely the interior looks which of course makes me feel good!! Questions about where we got the backsplash, what kind of wood accents around the kitchen door to the back, what plant is creeping along the ceiling beam, all kinds of things.

It’s fun getting a completely objective perspective from an outsider and hearing what they notice compared to the things that claim MY attention when I’m looking through the windows when I walk the dogs!

Here…..I just took a picture from the front door which is right next to the picture window, so you get an idea of what the neighbors see.

Oddly I don't look for idea from anywhere.. and even more oddly, whatever I see at someone elses' house I don't copy.. because 9 times out of 10 it wouldn't suit the rooms in my house.. I kinda just go with the flow, and whatever is in my head..

Have you ever turned your lights on, walked don the road a bit, turned around to walk past your house and pretended you didn't know who lived there? Bet you would be jealous of yourself...lol

well yes I've approached my house many times at night when the lights were on and Hubs was at home....but I have to tell you a funny thing.. he works in Film and Television .. and even HE says despite knowing that the houses on his shows are just plywood, and held up with planks at the back.. when the windows are lit for a night scene..even THEY look cosy... :ROFLMAO:

I don't go looking into windows at night , although it might be something I could start doing ,
I look on the Houses For Sale sites , sometimes it can be a neighbours house ,And yes I did look at one and thought it looked loads better than mine .I also look at their back gardens , and have been surprised how nice they are ,
I mostly come off feeling I could do better .

i used to drive around and like to look into people's homes as I passed by. It was kind of neat to see the coziness in their homes. I always worked the 4-12 shift, and it took well over an hour to get home. Plus I live a rural area, where after sunset, the major activity is crickets chirping. Coming back home, it was so late, everybody was in bed, except for one guy always watching TV. When I saw his light, I was only a few minutes from home, So, it was kind of comforting.

My early morning walk takes we through my city’s version of Beverly Hills.

I don’t envy the people, but I do notice that some homes and their owners seem to be in perfect harmony.

In many cases it’s not about what you see in the way of decorating and more about the care and attention to detail in the maintenance of the home.

In some cases, I think that I get to enjoy the posh homes more than their owners do. 🤔
There's no place to walk where I live, but I drive by McMansions. Occasionally I see a huge lighted chandelier hanging from a vaulted ceiling that's in front of an arched window, but other than that, I can never get close enough to really see what's inside. As I drive by and see acres of meticulously manicured lawns and gardens, barns with horses bedded down for the night, electronic gates with cameras and speakers at the entrance, and spotlights shining on the majestic houses, I'm not envious. I wonder where they came from and how they made their money or whether they inherited it. Do they have time to enjoy it all, or are they always working and just passing through?

I'm content with what I have and grateful for it. My house is too big for me. I really only live in half of it. I mean, how many bedrooms can you sleep in?

Bella ✌️
