Do you ever wonder about yourself?

I thought I would share this so you can join me in laughing at myself. I was on Facebook today and was reading a post by one of my friends. Someone named, for example, April Smith, had clicked on like and I thought to myself, I didn't click on that. For just a little bit, I kept wondering, "when did I do this"??? Ok, Smith was my maiden name! But, what made it even funnier was this wasn't the first time it has happened. Just a few weeks ago, I saw this same name and I thought the same thing. I told myself, well, dummy, you're not April Smith now and haven't been for 40 something years! I think I'm losing it.

All the time. Sometimes about something sort of like you've just described.

Other times, like the other night, I'll do a really fun rendition of one of my favorite guitar songs (in this case "City of New Orleans") after I haven't played for awhile, and it'll all come together and I'll get it "right" and I'll get all tingly and wonder about myself -- I can do this! Thank God I can still do this! On this guitar that has been with me for half a century now.

Now I'll have Willie doing " City of New Orleans" in my head for the night...that's a good thing:)

But yes you have to celebrate the things you are good at and pat yourself on the back. I just the first lavender plant of the season. I know by Fall it will be ten times the size it is now. There will be enough dried trimmings to scent the whole house and give some away too. Hey I have green hands and I'm happy. Something like remembering passwords and forget about it...but you needn't beat yourself up.

Okay the perfect app, whatever the heck that is, I do not have a smart phone. A tag for glasses, keys, exercise devices, like a phone searcher. Push the button and everything beeps till you locate it. Perfect.

I love Willie.:)

This is the guy who taught the song to me (via a record) --

mmhmmm, like the time (several years ago, yes, when I was younger) .. I forgot my bank account PIN. Not just for an hour or a day. Several days. I really thought it was the onset of Alzheimer's.

All the time....all the time. Have not gone to a store since they issued the new debit cards with chips. OMG....too confusing. Man behind me in line was exasperated with the time it was taking me to use it. Told him sorry.... that they just issued them to confuse little old ladies....as if we are not confused enough. Oh well....he shall grow old also :bigwink:

Not when I was all that old... There was a copy machine where I worked that required a 5 digit passcode. If I started thinking about what my code was before I got there, I could never remember it. But I could walk in there and punch it in without thinking...IF...I didn't think about it before hand.

^^^This doesn't even make sense to me.^^^ Now I *am* worried about myself!

Nancy, I find that with many numbers.....if I think about them I cannot remember what they are. Yet entering pin numbers, microwave settings, telephone numbers, ect. by rote works.

I am so much more forgetful nowadays than when I was young! But I've decided that I won't worry about it too much until the day comes when I find my runners in the fridge! That's when I'll know the jig is up and I'm going down :playful:. Til then, I'll just factor in more time for everything because I know I'll be stopping half way through to ask myself "what was I about to do?"

All the time. I never remember where I parked the car at the store. Week after week I walk aimlessly around the parking lot. Once a lady noticed me walking, she told me she does the same thing. Now she uses the car finder on her key chain. I looked down at my keys in my hand and realized I had one of them also.I pressed the button and found that my car was located just 2 cars away from where I was. Felt so stupid.

Hi AprilSun! I think everyone enjoyed your post! and furthermore...we can all relate! The best thing we can do is just Laugh....;) It always makes me 'feel good' when a really young person forgets in the same way! So much of it, I believe, is that we live in a time of Information Overload....It's a wonder we do as good as we do!

This is true. Had a loaner car the other day when mine was in the shop.

I stood for at least 5 minutes trying the key and that did not work. A young man came over and asked "sure you got the right car lady?"

Yeah, I was trying to open his car. I actually had to call the garage and ask what car I was driving.

Well everyone has certainly made me feel better and I'm glad you've enjoyed laughing with me. There is 2 people, I will not confess to and that is my best friend and my brother. My friend was looking for her glasses one day while we were out and she couldn't find them. She says" what have I done with my glasses?" I looked at her and there they were sitting on top of her head. I couldn't help but laugh and then my brother was on the phone one day and had lost his cell phone. Well, he was talking on it. The whole family has had a good laugh at him but it's all in fun with him and my friend. All of us know that we do things that equal that or worse also.

Yes he shall, Nora. No need to be upset with his comments. You know what's in his future. More to be pitied than scorned.

I write down everything I have to do, and then of course later I can't find the paper that I wrote them on. Now because of speed dialing I can't remember anyone's phone number. Passwords are another problem I have remembering. It's really a lot of fun getting old ! Of course getting old beats the alternative !

I've been wondering about myself for as long as I can remember. I was always fascinated by the way you can not remember the name of some personality and then days later for no reason, it will pop into your head. Obviously, your brain has been silently working on it all the while without you being aware of it. My mind is slipping on a lot of small things and yet I just solved a complex problem on my computer just by fumbling around. i find it watch the brain slowly deteriorate from the inside.

Our brains are not built for the world it is today. Sometimes technology hinders more than helps. Yet, it seems we all get over the hurdles in our lives. Kudos for us.
