Do you find the more you stay home the more you want to stay home?

In the past, I always wanted to go places. But, the last few years I have changed. I have found that the more I stay home, the more I want to stay home. I just don't enjoy getting out like I used to. I have told some friends about this and they say they are the same way. Are you like this now?

During the week, when my wife works, we may go out a few times to eat, but other than that, basically home bodies. Now, on weekends we do quite a big of running around, as in some shopping...….unless it's raining.

Once we move, we hope to do more socializing.

Yes !! I'm stunned by it tbh..because I'm a person who is usually always on the go, and ready to go out at the drop of a hat, but the last year, I've just felt I can't be bothered much. I make plans to go out, then change my mind cuz I an't be bothered and put it off for another day..

I get out a couple of times a week, but I really need to step it up a notch or I'll take root here...

If I go out on errands several days in a row... then I feel strange if I stay at home a couple of days [due to weather, etc.]

But once I have stayed home a couple of days, I seem to prefer staying at home.

A happy medium: When at home on nice sunny days, instead of going in the car, I go for a nice walk around the neighborhood.

Absolutely! I have two big chest freezers and a cabinet full of canned goods. I'm set until the spring. Once in a great while we go to I Hop. My hubby loves the pancakes. If we can manage a free room in AC we take advantage of that and a trip to my daughter twice a year is all I need. I've got so many projects going I don't have time to leave the house.

Yes, and I never thought I'd be such a homebody. Many of my friends say the same thing.

I like to get out every morning for a couple of hours to run errands and see what is happening in the world but if I can't do it before noon it usually doesn't get done!

I have no desire or energy to get cleaned up and go out in the evening for any reason.

Since retiring to the cabin property a few years ago, I’m glad to say it’s more errand than adventure to go anywhere

We get out no more than once a week, and in winter it’s more like once a month
And that’s to town for supplies

The occasional fishing trip to the high lakes are only a couple times in late summer

Too much to do at the place

Like making sure the bears get fed

Since I moved to the country in 1992 I marinate myself in homelife and make no apologies for it nor do I feel guilty. What I do with my own time is none of anybody’s business. Lately I’ve been going out more due to the holiday season and the fact that I joined a gym but generally I wait until my husband’s home to go shopping. Not because he’s sooo fun to shop with ; just that I’m actually not THAT into shopping. I enjoy spoiling myself and being at home is where I do most of it. Hobbies are very enjoyable.

I do, however, take my dogs out for a long walk everyday and sometimes that involves taking the car; depending where we go.

I have too many responsibilities right now to be a total homebody, but I do enjoy my leisure time at home and honestly I could probably do it a lot more - no problem.

I like getting out, a bit, everyday, if I'm not working a tree job. I have lots of projects, at home, so I don't sit around, much, when I'm there. On weekends, the gf and I run errands for about five hours, including grabbing lunch, somewhere. If I have to stay home a full day, every once in a while, that's fine with me.

I am sooo glad to find out that it isn't just me that's turning into a hermit ! Lol
Seriously, I thought there was something wrong with me, though at the moment the cold weather and short days doesn't help me to muster much enthusiasm for going out.

I am going to try and get out more though once the Winter is over. :)

I really appreciate this thread. Thank you, NanDee, for starting it. Now I don't feel as only I suffer from this, and I have been suffering, as most people I know of my age are out and about as always. I hated feeling content staying home so much; now I can review those feelings more objectively.

I do stay home more than I used to. Now when I go out, I want to get several things done that day, so I plot out what I need to do on one side of the highway and where I need to stop coming back. No more just going out to get out.

That's exactly what I do now.... when in fact I would always go out just to get out, now I do loads in one day..and am exhausted the following day and stay home!! TBH I think it started when I retired last summer, and had a few health problems, so I stayed home rather than exacerbate things ..and now I have lost the oompnh to go out like I did!

Yes! I used to feel guilty and think, how dare I waste these lovely good days like this at my age.... I got depressed, then figured; I'm doing what I want to do. I pop out once or twice a week, that's enough.

Same here, and I've become an expert at consolidating errands.
Also, I almost never go out at night anymore.

No. I usually need to get out every day - even if it's only for a walk. I look for excuses to get into the car and go somewhere, and sometimes I go just to get out. I love my house, but I'm really an outdoors sort of guy. I hate it when bad weather keeps me in.

i am glad i am not the only homebody here--i am like hollydolly i go out once a week only so i can keep my car cranked up--i cant walk arround the block because people let their pit bulls run loose--so i stay home do some housework then crochet

Yes, most of the time, especially since retirement in the last 4 years.
That was the point of my post about changing plans. I make plans
and then stay home. Partly depression.
Everyone willhave different reasons for staying home, so you can't
draw conclusions from this.
It depends on many things such as your town or city, transportation,
and who you live with or alone, your mobility and your spending habits etc.

I go out almost every day, except for maybe the weekend.

Every morning I go to Curves and I also go to the store almost every day. I never shop for more than a day or two. I have more energy on these days so that’s why I do it. Otherwise I tend to sit in my recliner and go on the internet or watch something on my iPad.

Since we don’t get snow or ice or too cold, going out isn’t a problem. I probably spend more money doing this but oh well and it’s not that much more.

Yes! I am most comfortable here, everything I want or need is here. During my working years I did more than my share of go, go, go. Now it's me time and me would rather be at home than anywhere else, so, this (home) is where you will find me the majority of the time. If you're in the area, stop by for a cup-o-joe, spot of tea, diet or non-diet soda, water and some good conversation . Don...
