Last week, a guy was here pressure washing my drive and he saw some stepping stones I have that my husband had stored on the opposite side of my drive. He asked me how much I would take for them and I didn't have a clue as to how much to ask because I don't use them now. I needed a basement window fixed and he offered to fix it in exchange for the stones.
I don't remember how many they are but I just didn't want to have to fool with selling them so I agreed to the deal. He told me he would call me when he could come and get them and fix my window. He called Monday and asked if it would be ok for him to come and get them Tuesday and he would fix my window. I told him that would be fine and he said he would call Tuesday morning about 9 and let me know when he would be here.
10:20 Tuesday morning came and I still had not heard from him and I had some things I needed to do that I did not want to start and then have to stop in the middle of it. I remembered then that my grass men would be coming that morning and if he waited any longer, he could get in here and not be able to get out because I don't live on the highway and my drive is narrow. I called him and explained it to him. He answered giving me an apology saying "I'm sorry I didn't call you. I turned my ankle over yesterday and I've been sleeping in." He asked if he could come on over and get them then. I told him he didn't need to be carrying them with a hurt ankle. He said the ground was dry he could drive across my yard. I just told him that it wasn't a good time after all because of the grass men coming. He told me to call him when it was a good time.
This isn't the first time he did this. When he was supposed to do the pressure washing, he had told me he would call me at a given time and let me know when he would be coming. He didn't do it then either and I thought he didn't want the job. He finally got around to calling me about 9:00 that night and again, he apologizes for not calling sooner. If his price had not been so good, I wouldn't have put up with him then.
I am tired of waiting on this man and I have decided since he didn't pay for them and I can get someone else to fix my window that is more dependable, I will just keep them. Plus, I'm not comfortable letting him drive across my yard when it isn't necessary and I'm especially not comfortable letting him carry those stones across my property with an injured ankle so I am going to tell him I have decided to keep them. I feel like since he hasn't paid for them and hasn't done the work he said he would do, I am under no obligation to let him have them. Do you put up with people like this?
