Do you get fed up with people that leave you hanging?

Last week, a guy was here pressure washing my drive and he saw some stepping stones I have that my husband had stored on the opposite side of my drive. He asked me how much I would take for them and I didn't have a clue as to how much to ask because I don't use them now. I needed a basement window fixed and he offered to fix it in exchange for the stones.

I don't remember how many they are but I just didn't want to have to fool with selling them so I agreed to the deal. He told me he would call me when he could come and get them and fix my window. He called Monday and asked if it would be ok for him to come and get them Tuesday and he would fix my window. I told him that would be fine and he said he would call Tuesday morning about 9 and let me know when he would be here.

10:20 Tuesday morning came and I still had not heard from him and I had some things I needed to do that I did not want to start and then have to stop in the middle of it. I remembered then that my grass men would be coming that morning and if he waited any longer, he could get in here and not be able to get out because I don't live on the highway and my drive is narrow. I called him and explained it to him. He answered giving me an apology saying "I'm sorry I didn't call you. I turned my ankle over yesterday and I've been sleeping in." He asked if he could come on over and get them then. I told him he didn't need to be carrying them with a hurt ankle. He said the ground was dry he could drive across my yard. I just told him that it wasn't a good time after all because of the grass men coming. He told me to call him when it was a good time.

This isn't the first time he did this. When he was supposed to do the pressure washing, he had told me he would call me at a given time and let me know when he would be coming. He didn't do it then either and I thought he didn't want the job. He finally got around to calling me about 9:00 that night and again, he apologizes for not calling sooner. If his price had not been so good, I wouldn't have put up with him then.

I am tired of waiting on this man and I have decided since he didn't pay for them and I can get someone else to fix my window that is more dependable, I will just keep them. Plus, I'm not comfortable letting him drive across my yard when it isn't necessary and I'm especially not comfortable letting him carry those stones across my property with an injured ankle so I am going to tell him I have decided to keep them. I feel like since he hasn't paid for them and hasn't done the work he said he would do, I am under no obligation to let him have them. Do you put up with people like this?

This last time made me so angry! I thought the least he could do was pick up the phone and let me know he wouldn't be coming after all but no, that was too much trouble. If I had not called him, I wonder if he would have ever called me. Now, he wants me to call him when it is a "good time" for him to come and do the repair and get the stones. Well, guess what. It's not going to be a good time so I won't be calling him. If he should call me, I'll just tell him I've decided to keep them and find someone else to do my repair.

Absolutely right .!!

yea, I do-a limited pocketbook requires you endure slovenly folk.
It all depends on the price and how long you can tolerate
their no shows.

If you do decide to let him fix the window, don't let him load the stones until the window is fixed!!!!

I had decided that before he pulled this "turned ankle" stunt. But, there is no way I'm waiting on him ever again!

Nope, if they don’t show up I’m done with them. I’ll take those stones, though. Do you deliver?

LOL! No, I'm afraid I don't deliver. It's too far to walk and carry.

Tell him you decided to sell the stones to get the money to pay for the window repair, then maybe just do that.

Then, he would be wanting to come and buy them but I don't want his money. I'll sell them to someone else before I do that because then I would have to be waiting on him again and that's not going to happen.

@AprilSun

Please edit your post and add paragraph breaks. A wall of text is very difficult to read.

I'm sorry. As you can tell, it's been a long time since I've been that "long winded". Also, I'm still slightly angry about it so I wasn't thinking how long it is when I posted it. If this isn't enough, please let me know.

April, I think you handled this just right. The guy is obviously unreliable; who knows why? Judycat may be right, he has a drinking problem, or some other personal issue, a good reason not to use his services ever again.

Anybody who comes up with a series of dubious excuses like that is not to be trusted.

Thank you. I've also thought about his quality of repairing my window may not be any better than his word. I would rather pay someone that is dependable and does quality work than to deal with anyone like this.

I've found that people who leave others hanging continue to do so as long as others put up with it and chase them down. They're usually full of excuses or they try to make the other person seem unreasonable. I dropped a couple of these flakes - I don't need that nonsense in my life. 🙄😠

In New Mexico, hired people promise to appear at a specific date. But they don't specify which MONTH!
In New Mexico, one hired person may work, but TWO hired people just take a siesta or sit on the back of their truck.
In New Mexico, all work might be completed (in English)" maybe tomorrow!" then again, "maybe not".
In New Mexico, They have to be paid in advance because their truck needs repair before they can go to work.
Please note: I AM NOT specifying any race! I LOVE the Mexican people or I wouldn't live here, and I speak of my race as well!
