Do you get massages?

I have a membership at Massage Envy and while I was working I was never going and just racking up credits. When I lost my job and retired I canceled every membership/subscription that I didn't think was necessary, including Massage Envy. Then I realized massages were something I did for myself and could even possibly improve my health.

I've been going every month now and some of the knots that were in my shoulders are no longer there. My massage therapist uses medium pressure so it isn't painful during the massage but I can feel it afterward. I always wonder if my mother, who never had a massage, would have had fewer aches and pains as she aged if she had. I got a massage today and literally went in and out of consciousness the entire time. It was great!

Wonder if anyone else in the forum is a believer in massages.

I’m a believer and supporter of alternative health practices. My best friend became a massage therapist and did very well. She’s retired now.

Massage is not only good for stress release - getting muscle knots out but it’s also good for releasing toxins. We carry a lot of toxins in our fatty skin cells and massage therapy helps us break them up and release them.

Massage therapy and acupuncture compliment each other nicely.

I’m upset with myself for never really using our alternative health benefits. We still have benefits but they’re cut some.

Enjoy while you can.

I like them up to a point... can only handle about 30 min though.

I don't think I drink enough clear liquid, that might be one reason I have soreness for a day or so after the massage. Also, at $55.00 for 30 min, the cost adds up

@seadoug, at once a month, how many times did you have to go before you had relief from muscle tightness in your shoulders?

This is probably the fifth massage I've had where it wasn't excruciatingly painful when the therapist smoothed out the knots in my shoulders. It took a while. But I've been getting 90 minute massages. I used to get bored after 60 minutes with my previous therapist but not with this one.

And yes, you have to drink a lot of liquids before getting a massage because it will "dry you out". I sometimes can't even talk when I'm on my stomach because my throat is so dry.

BTW I know massages are all about relaxing but my mind rarely shuts off. I usually either talk to my therapist or my mind goes through a million things. I don't know what happened today, but I went in and out of consciousness during my massage. Maybe I'm learning to truly relax.

I don't get massages now but would like to. Some Chiropractors have massage therapists too. That's about the only way I would get a massage -through my health insurance. My sister used to give good technique to my back.

Yes. When we moved to this area 10 years ago, my husband was taking over a new and large territory. He has overworked and had a lot of stress. Through a neighbor, we found this lady that came to the house and gave him wonderful massages that completely took all his aches and pain away. I used her services a few times as well with great results.
Now that he is retired and stress free, we seldom use her services but definitely refer her to all our neighbors.

Do you get massages?

No, and never have.... I'm skeptical by nature...

If it were a bloke who needed to lay his hands on me to do the massage, I'd be wary and alert...

If it were a woman..... well I'd just get quite excited... so no, I wouldn't risk it. 😊
