Do you have an ingenious idea?

You know. Something you see or hear about, and you ask, "Why don't they just do this?".

Mine is that if you live in an area where there is flooding, why not build a houseboat instead of a regular house? As the flooding takes place, the house would float up and could be tethered to keep it from floating away. The tether could be made so that it only lets out enough cable to keep the houseboat afloat, and would sense when to reel it in as the water level goes down. 😃 And of course electricity/gas,& sewer would need to be disconnected until the flooding was over. But, think of all the insurance money that would be saved.

I know that it sounds ridiculous. But then again .....

Any other brilliant ideas ❓

Dozens over the years but did you see the movie "Joy?" Don't want the hassle of going through that!
I have a drawerful of copyrights but I'm not going to do anything with them!
So do my two children! (They got that from me!)
But, I have priorities in my life and seeking financial growth is not one of them.

I love your idea of the houseboat though! Brilliant!

I've often encountered the need for a specialized tool to complete a job.
There might be something on the market that is close to what I need, but it is not quite what I need
or the cost is way more than I'm willing to pay for maybe a one-time use.
That's usually when the old welding unit it's fired up and after a few attempts, mostly success to some degree.
Got a box in the garage full of such items.

Not sure they would classify as 'ingenious', but mostly just a practical approach to a problem.
And...it's FUN!

I guess I'm different...in that I would Never live in an area that is prone to flooding. No place is perfect, and free of natural disasters....we have to be alert when tornado season approaches....but living in a low lying coastal region, for example, is just asking for trouble, IMO.

One Halloween I had the ingenious idea to dress up as a female and go to a bar to listen to a band. I used a bra and water balloons with a low cut sweater, red lip stick, used eye shadow and makeup and created a cleavage with the eye shadow. On the top was a wide brim straw hat.
I spent most of the night fending of advances from a lot of men, and quite a few admiring women. :)

A house that floats-ain't bad idea. In PA, I know of a guy whose house is on a brook. On the other side of his basement wall is the brook. Every spring the brook overflows, and wipes out the house. And every year, the guy is on TV, saying that he is going to rebuild. Everybody praises him for his perseverance. It's a tradition. All I can think of is move the damn house, but a floating house would work, too.

I agree. I would get flooded out once and 'head for the hills'. How many times can one dry out or rebuild before they say that there's got to be somewhere better than this? I understand about wanting to be close to family and work, but safety should come first.

My latest "'invention" was to secure long zip ties to a 3" duct-cleaning brush so it could then clean out my 5" heating ducts, loosening the dust so I could then vacuum it with my large shop vac and extensions. I am quite certain that such a brush exists for professionals, but there is none (with soft bristles) that I could find for homeowners. Worked great, even though I could have used a few more zip ties (see below)! Saved me close to $1500 to have my heating and cold air returns professionally cleaned, although it did take a bit of time. But I am retired so I have the time.

Once upon a time there was a idea that I became interested in. The idea of having a container in the back yard that stored the materials to house excape gas balloons. In a flood or earthquake or a zombie attack a person could get into a chair and inflate the balloon and fly away from the disaster.

I wish somebody would invent an electronic device that limits the volume on the stereo system so commercials don't blast out twice as loud as the video. It would also be good for the parts of movies where there is loud gunfire and explosions so the dog doesn't get freaked out. There is such a thing as limiters for audio mixing but I believe they only work on one or two channels at a time. Hmmm... the loud noises probably only come from the two main speakers and not the surround speakers. That might work. I'm going to research it. :)

Edit: 2 channel limiters are available, but decent ones are not cheap. They can go from $800 - $10,000. There are some for under $100, but they're going to distort the signal pretty badly.

I think the limiter would need to work on the input signal rather than the output. I wonder if any audio amplifiers have built-in limiters.
