You know. Something you see or hear about, and you ask, "Why don't they just do this?".
Mine is that if you live in an area where there is flooding, why not build a houseboat instead of a regular house? As the flooding takes place, the house would float up and could be tethered to keep it from floating away. The tether could be made so that it only lets out enough cable to keep the houseboat afloat, and would sense when to reel it in as the water level goes down.
And of course electricity/gas,& sewer would need to be disconnected until the flooding was over. But, think of all the insurance money that would be saved.
I know that it sounds ridiculous. But then again
